The hunt is happening next year. It's tricky finding out information but I plan to call the biologist next year after the winter passes and hope to get more details.
Sounds like great advice thank you! we'll be hunting from the 30-8. I hope the rut will be in full swing by then, the outfitter said that the moose have just started coming down off the mountain so hopefully each day brings a little more opportunity
I'm headed to alberta for an archery moose hunt in 2 weeks and the strategy is to walk a river system looking for moose. I've done 2 DIY drop camp hunts in AK and that's just sitting ridge tops calling and glassing so this type of hunt will be a first for me. I do a lot of archery elk hunting...
I know it's a shameless plug but my buddy and I just did a pack review with a 4 packs including the new k4 and kifaru. I have been eating too many biscuits and too many squats so the kifaru would like crazy on me and the stone and exo stuck like glue. I think if you have a flat back you'll be...
forgive the shameless post but a buddy and I just did a backpack comparison and I included the barney's in there along with stone glacier, kifaru and Exo K4. there are a lot of things I liked about the barney's especially for heavy loads but it I felt like the exo and stone carried the load...
It can seem a bit daunting of a task at first but as you find what you're looking for you'll start to see the same names come up. I have done 2 DIY drop camp hunts I have had one good and one very bad. My advice would be to get a hold of as many people as possible that have used that outfit...
I'm 6 even and 200 pounds, 47' chest and I went with a 2xl to make sure I could fit a puffy and heavy weight hoody under and it's perfect. it's a slim fitting jacket in my opinion so with just a shirt and the jacket it still fit fine due to the trim fit on the sides. Hope this helps
Online I read that you do not need any forms to enter canada with just a compound bow but I have heard it can be a nightmare if you don't have everything ready. has anyone crossed over with just a bow and can give me more information? TIA
Patience and glassing for me. I pull up the binos after hiking to the top of a ridge or what looks like it would be a great glassing spot, give a quick 2 minutes and see another spot that looks great to glass from and move over there. This is probably a massive reason I don't have many people...
I hope this thread gets good traction! I brought some seal skinz (sp?) socks and they absolutely saved me. I walked through a beaver pond and sunk in up to my high thigh which allowed water to go down my gaiter and inside my boots. I put on those socks and walked my boots dry and my feet...
I have used the nevadas and lowa tibets depending on the season and the alaskas to me feel stiffer than both. I have slightly wider feet so I got the alaskas in wide and they fit perfect, just a titch tight on the outside of the foot but they'll break in. I have a size 10.5 in the lowas and...
Does everyone pretty much just hike to break-in their boots or is there a faster way to get it done?
I just received my first pair of boots that are a little on the stiffer side. I went with the han wag alaska gtx and the fit and feel are very comfortable but I did my normal 6 mile hike last...
Sounds like its all personal preference but for me this is perhaps my favorite clothing item. I love how light and breathable the face mask is plus you don't have a neck gaitor on making your neck more hot if your hiking around before you want to conceal your face.
I like the list!! How many days will you be out for? up in sheep country have you had any issues with wind and a tarp tent? Most of the videos i've seen they have something with a frame on it? I am headed to ak next year for sheep and have been debating on bringing my silex.
I'm looking at the same thing and I had one with my kifaru years back and I loved it for awkward loads and training. I have a moose hunt this year and i'm going to pick one up but to hopefully make hauling a load that size more comfortable but if nothing else I like training with it. hope this...
I was camping this weekend with a buddy and we're headed to hunt moose next year in alaska and I have never heard someone snore that loud in my life! ha Any tips or tricks to keep him quite besides a pillow over the face? i'm worried the moose will think we have a bear in camp.
Second...
This has been a really helpful thread!! I just drew my first antelope tag here in southern utah and I can't wait to get out there! Any insight into bedding habits? I have always hunted elk and deer the back country way with pack on my back and would like to try this approach for antelope...
I'm looking at going on a goat hunt based out of gustavus and I can't find much on it. Has anyone hunted around that country that could provide some information about best time to go, terrain, or overall insight. Clearly I'm not looking for way points just if it's good goat country and would...
Awesome insight and it makes a lot of sense! This will be my first guided hunt as I have to have a guide in canada but they seem to have a great reputation and I'm excited to go with someone that knows these animals a lot better than I can figure them out! Thanks again!
