My wife and I get a kick out of visiting the Good Will or other thrift stores WHEN we vacation (always looking for a pair of wine glasses (*since we always forget to bring them... and Air B&Bs NEVER have good ones). In the last 10 years floating around CO (mostly) I've found several nice German...
After reading all this... I'll no longer leave cridders I shoot with lead (in my shotgun) laying around (coons mostly). I'll take it to the "coyote diner" (dump) on the side of town and toss it next to the dead cats and stuff (never seen an eagle there and I live right down the road so I'd see...
You can start with some beef fat in the skillet- reduce it slowly (pork, bacon works too). You're gonna have some dry meat otherwise! But olive oil works well too (especially if going for marinara). I've also reduced fat and let it (almost) cool, then run patties through it (or douse it/mix it...
The 6.5G (or 6.8SPC) has vamint bullets that will do ok on pelts- especially of you download them (and don't hit bone). But I use (and like) a 223 with a 40g V-max. Really, it's good to 300 yards (full load) and I have read MANY posts over the years where some download them for a little hole...
I have read my Speer #11 about 30 times in 35 years (first 50 pages, before all the load data pages). There are some excellent "tips" in those manuals. Online resources are cool, but it's nice to have a REAL book to fall back on (to "check" those online loads tossed around). Powders keep...
Glad you like your lights! The lower CRI does give a more TRUE spectrum of light- no doubt. I prefer the 5-6k range myself because I want the extra "throw" they give-- albeit not a lot more.
What I do like about the Sofirn line is that they don't ever go into the "blue" or "purple" CRI...
Superb observation! Neal Postman wrote a small book, "Amused to Death" (later well expanded upon by Roger Waters in his 1992 release under the same name- EXCELLENT album!) That book details exactly your point here.
George Carlin was a prophet... I miss him!!!
If people are jealous, they're paying too much attention (in my estimation) ;)
I'm an old school hunter raised on ranches and we ALL knew the "Dime Store" cowboys back in the day... and we laughed at them for the most part. I don't have any social media (never have- except maybe for here and a...
Glad you're happy with it! I again have to say there are a lot of GREAT lights sold here by most brands mentioned (and liked a lot). Sofirn is just another good option, and for what you get- a good value.
I hope to hear more from the many who bought these last week!
I do not disagree with you (or anyone here) at all on the CURRENT cost of making ONE (in your case), or a few (in the case of shops making them today). And I've said I won't spend it myself AT this cost (price) today. I am WELL aware or the cost here guys (and had a good chat with a machinist...
Uh… I didn’t “forget” what a factory and machines cost, and I know (and explained) WHY the cost is high… while I also made the MAIN point you agreed to above, “…prices WILL drop quite a bit” if someone decided to “churn out thousands”. This WAS the point I was making- we agree.
I’ve shot a...
I'll chime in and say just one thing here... as I have read all the posts here for a few years- I feel like the expectation of the "cost" of "gear" HAS gone up in the minds of hunters old and new. Buyers who have lots of disposable income HAVE pushed prices up on "stuff" that didn't budge much...
If I had an oil filter company I'd have already done that! It's just the up-front cost of a factory that's stopping me!
Someone out there has the tooling already in place to sell these for "dirt"... so there IS some reason (barrier to entry) why they haven't................. yet.
OR... they would buy $60 versions made to last longer and made by a company that sells oil filters for $4 each... retail. Basic (but decent) "rifled" barrels sell for $30 OEM and $80 retail. Many makers (competition) keep this cost down.
Yes, I have. I've followed the loudspeaker design forums (as a designer) for years. There are now sets of DSP hearing aids that cost less that $100- more usable than a lot of the "traditional" stuff docs sell us. Even Bose is getting into this space. WHY... because they just don't cost that...
I'm an old miser... So let me piss off a few here with my diatribe... and this is based on the COST of stuff Vs. the "market" for "STUFF"... so please understand- I KNOW what metal cost (and what oil filters cost to make).
First let me say I appreciate a GOOD knife and a GOOD one (made in...
I have a pair of Danner Powderhorns: 11EE size. Wore them around the carpet in the house for a few hours and gave up- they fit ok with liner socks, but not with full, thick wool... I needed 12s. I usually wear a 11-12 wide (*but thought the EE would maybe fit, but didn't work out).
In...
ALL my savages when received get pulled apart, triggers tweaked, and re-assembled with the front bolt as tight as I can get it (the rear bolt just needs to be snug enough to not turn). This is "Savage 101" stuff but I'm sure it applies to many makes. Can't "bed" these new plastic actions as...
