Hunting in Manitoba for Central Canada Barren Ground Caribou has been a crap shoot the last 8 years, about like going to a casino. I think 2017 was good but not so hot since or for the 2 years prior.
Too bad, but that is how it is. I went 3 times to arrow a bull further North in Nunavut...
Hunt with a B3 Hawk index finger wrist strap with the webbing connection between release head and wrist strap. Shoot it with back tension.
Have used multiple different hand helds….thumb release, hinge and Carter Evolution. Much prefer the wrist strap index finger with a hook, not a jaw...
Good luck and congratulations on the tag! High elevation for desert sheep. Take a few days before season getting used to the it. I’ve seen a lot of folks hurting above 8 or 9,000’ elevation. And 12 is way up there if you live just above sea level.
Your .270 will work fine, just like it...
I carry mine with the bow angled well forward, bottom cam in the buttstock pouch and the top tether going thru one of the riser holes on my 35" A-A bow. I always carry my bow pointed ahead (opposite of Roosie).
On a 30" bow I'd tether the top strap thru the cam.
The latest Gunbearer (this...
Quite the drive back in there on the Canol Rd, and good stories of your hunts!
Did it in 2017 from home here along the TransCanada highway in south central BC....was a 3-day drive but memorable as heck. I bow hunted Dall sheep with Canol Outifitters. Great part of the world! Would love to...
Carry it in a Kifaru Gunbearer while packing or hunting mountain game. Have not damaged it there yet.
Did wreck a string and limb hand carrying thru a rock slide years ago. Was stone sheep hunting on a DIY backpack hunt. Spare bow was in the truck a two day hike away….end of sheep hunt...
A bear’s chest cavity really wedges down in the front. The spine drops low there too. Not a great place hit a bear. Bow (or even rifle) you are way better off with a lung hit than hitting just meat and bone too far forward. The bionic big bears I hear about were typically hit too far forward...
I’ve been hunting “everything” with NAP 1.5” original 3 blade mechanicals (made in USA version) for past 8 seasons. Sharp as heck, fly great, good blood trails. Centered a rib an a moose last fall. Big loud smack as it cut the rib off and penetration to the far side of the chest cavity...
Arrowed a brown with a Rocky Mt Titanium 3-blade replaceable blade head. 1-1/8” cutting dia on an arrow weighing 475 gr shot from a 62# bow. 25 yd shot low in the heart. Bear made it about 225 yds. Penetration was to the far side of the rib cage. Hairy tracking in the thick willows.

Best draw tags were NR NV Desert Bighorn, NR UT Bison and NR WY Shiras moose tags. I cherished the opportunity, scouted on the phone, thru Biologists and printed media as well as in person as applicable. All were pre-hunting forum tags back in the last century. The bow was tuned, the arrows...
Coveyleader has it right. I will add that Bighorn rams get dumber during the rut (November) and during the winter and spring than they are in August and September (typical sheep season) in my experience.
Thinhorns (Dalls) in the Mackenzies (NWT) never see people and were not as wary as the...
1. Learning to shoot back tension with an index finger release. This was after shooting back tension with a Carter Evolution for a while.
2. Shooting a clicker back in my finger days, including hunting with my compound.
3. Accepting that an unsuccessful bowhunt just meant I got another...
I would take a chest freezer and Honda EU 1000i generator along. It will start and run my 12-cf ancient Maytag chest freezer or my 6-year old Danbury (Costco) $180 5-cuft freezer. I also take my vacuum sealer, electric knife sharpener and big cutting board along. Has served me well but I...
I always look at these reviews and think about different scopes, but bottom line, my Swaro ATM 20-60x65HD combined with a Nikon ED13-30x50 HD have served me so well that I just keep using them.
Same with the Swaro SV10x42ELs combined with a Leica Ultravid 8x32 (Pre-HD) for hunting binoculars.....
Length = 37" per OP #3
Circumference 1 = 16" per OP #3
C2 = 15-5/8'
C3 = 14"
C4 = 9"
Total = 91-5/8" x 2 = 183-2/8". Still say he is around 180" based on your measurements, 60 day shrinkage, etc.
I based my C2, C3 and C4 estimates off a P&Y official score sheet from a slightly smaller ram...
I bow hunted Dall sheep with Canol in the Mackenzies (NWT) in 2017, the first year Glenda took over. Was a great hunt.
Have bow hunted caribou a couple times with Arctic Red...great hunts in 2018 and 2021.
Big ram! Great mass and decent length. Close to 180??? Looks like he might be young but can't tell for sure off the photo what are annuli and what are false.
