I would use maker expanding copper subs 400 or 500g in the 45-70. The bullets are so long that a shorter case should have no real effect. Could probably just cut down brass and use in a regular 45-70 chamber. Note Hornady already does this a little for the ftx bullets. Brass is shorter so...
The generally accepted limit for immediate damage is 140 db. 130db gets you 10 shots per day, 120 gets you 100 and 110 gets you 1000. Most good bolt gun cans get you under 140 and maybe under 130. Db is actual pressure waves dbA is a weighting that is said to more closely mimic what the human...
Considering shotguns are for dynamic shooting, I expect a silencer changes the handling of a gun a lot and in a bad away. With that said, I think you could design a gun/silencer system that would work. But it’s not as simple as bolting one on like on a rifle.
I have considered doing a form...
I went with the AB 30 cal A-10 for a 223 can. Still in jail, but I expect it soon as my dealer closed a month ago. It’s a 7 stack vs the 556 can which is a 5 stack. I expect a bit quieter than the 556 as it has more volume even though it’s bigger bore. Only $30 more than the 556 version.
Hunting Iowa, I am using 35 whelen and 45-70. Both have magnum level recoil with shorter ranges. I looked for lpvo’s and most were around 2” eye relief. Not enough for me.
The problem I found with lpvo’s is they all have short eye relief as they are designed for AR’s. On magnum rifles they don’t offer enough and I am pretty sure I would get scoped.
I did find one red dot that’s a 2x. Going to try it for the deep woods this year.
Cheap o/u and sxs are cheap for a reason. My stoeger sxs is poorly regulated with a measurably different poi for each barrel. It’s ok as it’s my sass shotgun and targets are 10 yards away. Would not want to hunt with it. The poor quality is why there are lots of the cheap, ie sub 500 break...
I for one like the data the summit is generating. The methodology may not be perfect, but it is consistent. It also shows not a single ar shooting 556 gets under 140 db at the shooters ear. If you do an A weighting they squeak in just under 140. While we assume that is the safe limit of...
Where are you located? I have a few I might part with barrels and/or frames, but they are pistols frames, so don’t want to deal with shipping.
Barrels, 445 supermag (encore), 45-70 20” rifle (contender)
Congratulations.
The process for trust must be very different as I have been waiting 27 days after my dealer closed their doors (requested an expedite so they can truly close) and 6 days since I have had a different form 4 approved. That suggests they simply can’t process a form 4 in a week...
There is a balance between barrel length and weight of the can that works. You need to figure how you want the rifle to balance. I have a 23” single shot that’s fine with a 10oz can, yet a 20” with 22 oz can is too heavy.
I ran a 20” barrel last year with a k configuration on my can as it...
Check out farmertec for cheaper clone saws. Built a 660 last year for about 1k less than a stihl. Not a saw to carry around, but handy when needed. My bike saws are a 192 and a 201. Too valuable to leave in a truck.
Electric is probably a good use case. Won’t be doing many cuts so cut/run...
Yes, here they had the one ammo offering on sale and no guns chambered in it. 45-70 on the other hand was readily available in several loadings including subs.
5/ 17 certified, approved 8/21. 2 RP trust. Originally purchased June 23, rejected due to atf change in policy in January 24, e forms and SS issues resulted in a 4 month delay in recertification. Almost 14 months after purchase I can finally take it home.
I expect the above approval came...
I used a subsonic 45-70 last year with 500g makers. Was devastating on a whitetail sub 50 yards. There is something to using a big bullet. Drop and/or recoil become the limiting factor for long ranges.
Surprisingly the bc between the 160’s and 200’s is close. One 200 is .369 the other is .3 and the 160 is .31. Having used the 160’s out of a pistol, I know they work down to 1700 fps or slower. Gives plenty of range when the whelen will launch them at close to 3k.
Correct. I can use my 35 whelen with a 150g going 3k ish, but not a 30-06. A bit silly imho, but that’s what we can do. Heck I talk to people everyday who still think it’s straightwall only and the regulations changed 4 years ago to allow any 35 cal or larger.
In some ways I can see why...
