A few months ago after going to the Melbourne knife show, I decided I was going to get a table at Australia's biggest knife show in Sydney. In the lead up to the show, I was madly trying to finish knives that I wanted to bring with me. I fully intended to photograph all the knives I made before...
The SMK was one of the first match bullets used for hunting before there were other options on the market. The SMK generally gives variable performance on game. Sometimes the SMK expand well and kill quickly. Other times they do not expand and so act more like an FMJ, producing minimal wound...
Hi mate. Thanks for the comments.
The number one thing I have found for successful forming of kydex is that you want it as hot as possible, without actually burning the kydex. The hotter you get it (without going too far) then the better the press will be.
I use the proper high density foam...
My son used his 308Win for a fallow deer (about whitetail sized) a few years ago. We loaded it with the 178gn ELDX. He shot a doe at 100 yards and a busk at 180 yards. Performance on both was excellent. The doe was shot just behind the shoulder and ran maybe 20 yards. The buck was a high...
I carry a couple of fixed blades in my pack every time I hunt. In almost 40 years of hunting, I have never needed a knife so quickly that I wished it was on my belt.
Well, I have spent the last 2 days reading every study I can find comparing lead bullets to copper. I am not finding any scientific paper that talks about copper bullets not killing as well as lead. Every study I have found has stated that lead and copper bullets perform the same. And where they...
I have shot about 40 animals with copper bullets, and seen about the the same number shot by other hunters. They do kill, but also have more limitations that lead bullets from my observation. Copper bullets kill very differently than lead bullets, and I prefer the performance of lead bullets in...
Yes, that is what I am trying to avoid. All the studies I have found all seem to be near identical in concluding lead and copper bullets for hunting are effective.
Yes, and there is a significant amount of anecdotal observation from hunters giving examples of copper bullets giving poor or reduced killing efficacy. But all the studies I can find all seem to conclude much the same thing - that lead and copper bullets kill equally effectively.
I had a Tikka set up for the 6GT in a KRG chassis. I could only get MDT AICS magazines for it at the time, but they did not feed the GT reliably at all. I kept having the cartridge dive down at the front of the magazine. I modified my magazine with a spacer a little like a BR/Dasher conversion...
We have a proposal emerging from the Victorian government in Australia to force hunters to use non-lead projectiles for all public land hunting in the state. Are there any scientific studies that compare the different options and actually talk about ant of the issues with copper?
I want to be...
I shot MOA for about 25 years, knew it intimately, shot competitions and hunted with MOA, and liked it. I didnt need no stinkn MIL. Until I tried using a MIL scope. And I liked it. A lot. And now I have virtually no MOA scopes left.
It took me very little time to adapt. Going from 1/8" or 1/4"...
If I was starting from an absolutely blank slate, I would go 6PRC. But I have decided for me, the easiest choice is a 6/284. And thats because:
1) I have a standard boltface Tikka as a donor action already; and
2) I used to shoot a 6.5/284 match rifle, and still have my old loading dies. The FL...
I have a FX 4.5-28 on my PRS rifle, and the same model scope on my 300 Norma hunting rifle. I have taken the Norma hunting, but never shot anything with it.
My son has a March 3-24x52mm on his 300WM, and a March 1-4.5 on his 375 Ruger. He has carried both rifles on hunts, but so far has only...
Its good to see this scope will be making some form of reappearance. Out to 600 yards, I think it will be a great choice. The objective will be fine for everything but low light conditions. Lack of adjustable parallax would not be a deal breaker for me.
