I used the 150 or 165 gr game kings out of a savage 308 for about 20 years. They were always accurate and worked great for deer elk and moose. I'm currently using the 165 tgk out of my 280 and I'm happy with the performance I've seen so far.
The niche markets like overlanding gear and especially slide in truck campers are ridiculous. $100,000 cdn for a fibreglass box with a window and some cupboards is robbery. Also tires. I've been pricing tires for my ram. The last set I bought in about 2021 was $700. I'll be looking at $2k now.
I was looking for one of similar uses to yours but more lake and less river. Ended up buying a 16' novacraft prospector in fiberglass. I've used it quite a but and it's been great. 60 ish pounds so not to bad to throw on the truck.
I recently thought I needed to upgrade my 2013 ram 1500 to a new pickup. After pricing out new trucks, I realized I'd only get maybe 25k for my old truck with 174000km which is still in good shape and does everything I need it to do, and a new truck outfitted similar to my old one would be...
We still often use aluminum for bigger loads like ranges and dryers. There's nothing to be concerned about as long as it was done correctly. It needs to have a corrosion inhibitor on the bare wire and to be tightened down with plenty of torque. It's always a good idea to re-torque after the...
No not really. My chamber doesn't have a ton of freebore so I couldn't seat much longer than mag length anyway. I'd have to look at my notes to say for sure but the 180 eldm hits the rifling at around 3.400" coal anyway so even with the 3.350 tikka mag length I'm only jumping it 50 thou. I guess...
280 ackley is quite possibly your best option for those parameters. I recently built one based on a tikka action with a 22" barrel and a stockys carbon stock. All in its right at 8lbs and recoil is very manageable even without a brake. It's quite a bit less than the 7mm mag I had in a tikka...
That's great. Thanks a lot. Any chance you could get a measurement of the cargo space with seats folded down? I can't seem to find this anywhere online. Have you ever pulled a trailer with it?
Mine has a 22" carbon barrel.
It's favorite loads so far are:
Sierra 165 tgk @2925 h4831
Hornady 162 eldm @2880 w h4831
Hornady 180 eldm @ 2825 w 7828ssc
I know this is an older thread but I'd like to give it a bump. I'm currently looking at a new outback wilderness. Any reason to avoid these? Use would be as a daily driver and mostly solo hunts on weekends. Wanting something reliable but also somewhat off road capable and able to haul a canoe...
I always had trouble with my chrono chronograph on sunny days. If the sun wasn't directly over top of the chrony I would get funny numbers. Always worked fine on overcast days. The garmin xero fixed it. I would bet you're getting way more consistent velocity than what it's telling you.
Just last week I was at rona (canadian version of home depot) and I see a guy with no arms jumping up and down with his butt on his tonneau cover trying to get it closed. Well, I asked him if he needed a hand and he quickly replies "brother I could use two" we both had a good chuckle and I...
The volquartsen (sp?) Hammer will give you a nice light 2lb ish trigger pull. A huge improvement for 40ish dollars. As far as ammo goes, try cci mini mags. My go to for a hunting round.
