When I went through this selection a year ago I settled on the Meostar's after a lot of over thinking and recommendations from others. Obviously they are on the heavy side, but I definitely don't regret the decision.
I picked up an Eddie Bauer Cirruslite Down Parka a couple weeks ago. The brown color was on clearance for $130, plus a $5 off rewards deal, and 50% off. I walked out for like $68 or something like that. For a budget coat here are the specs: Size large weighs 24 oz. with 8 oz. of 550fp. It also...
If you can swing another hundred for an Exo 4800 you'd probably be happier. It's the same size but 1 pound 5 oz. lighter than the Beartooth. I have a Metcalf and really like it. Just seems like Exo's are a real Cadillac.
I can kind of relate as well. My Metcalf seems to slip down, I always assumed all packs would probably do that because you know... gravity and all... I have quite a curve in my back also, and always felt more comfortable with the belt sitting lower on my hips then centered on my iliac crest...
I would say the Kuiu Pro's are the most durable. They have reinforced seat and knee's that's out of thicker material and they are marketed as an outer layer.
I would check out the Stone Glacier Grumman pants. The color is weird, but they have more fill of equal quality to the Kuiu pro's, weigh the same and cost A LOT less. The Kuiu pro's face fabric is thicker so they would probably be more durable, and you can get them in normal colors.
There's...
I have the Kuiu Pro and like it a lot coming from an Eberlestock Scout model. The Kuiu stays high on your chest fairly well, the straps are so thin they're practically not even there. The side pocket is just large enough for the standard iphone size (not the plus) if you don't have a bulky case...
Stone Glacier has new puffy pants out too. They have more down fill than the Kuiu SD Pro's for a lot less $$$$. I'm not sure what they were thinking with the color option, but hopefully someday they will release different colors.
Agreed, you're going to hate the noise unless it's always windy where you bow hunt. If you layer with a soft shell or something else that's quiet over the down coat you'll be fine. That's what I do with an Eddie Bauer microtherm which is basically the same spec's as the Brooks.
They'll warranty basically anything. I wear the canvas mountain pant for construction, and after I wear holes through the knees, heels or where ever they'll give you a new pair or a $20 credit if it's a discontinued item. I've heard stories of guys ripping huge holes in the guide pro's and...
