Got my boots an an working thru my break in now so far so good,
Like the fit and the boots themselves are impressive. Excited
To see how they get along with the mountians after I get them broke in with Sheep blood on them!
I wore a EE width and contacted the lathrop boys. They took a size half size bigger and molded the elite hunter boot to fit my foot. So far so good. Still in the break in process but I like the boots. They fit more like a glove and my old meindel Alaskans fit more like a mitten that I was...
Trip number three is behind me! Flew out with a great guy from WI, works in a ER. Man I was sure hoping my skill set came in more handy that his did on this trip! Things went smoothly. Bear tracks each day on the mountains, saw a sow with triplets then this beauty of a boar working his way...
I do all my baiting with a pop up ground blind. Take it down when I leave. Six grizz and a black bear later I see no reason to change. I will add I sit at about a hundred yards.
“Not always the case, but until you have had your ass handed to you by a mountain you dont really know what your in for haha.“
Love this. Much truth spoken here!!
I guess when I think about it now, climbing up I’ve never noticed a difference either. Stepping off a airplane I have noticed. Maybe the hike up helps to wclimate.
I live almost at sea level and can tell a big difference in a 4000’ jump. It’s not headache nose bleed high but if you live near sea level it is harder to get your breath. I suppose everyone’s lungs aclimate different though.
Not anymore. They died off a handful of years back cause they are stupid and wouldn’t come down the mountian in the winter. I did meet an old timer once who remembered seeing one before they were gone though.
But I figure if you can handle Kodiaks mountians and weather.....Sheep will be a joke lol
It’s all expensive. It’s all got pressure. But then again it’s all how you describe expensive and pressure. But as this thread dictates different adventures are preference. I had a Sheep client once shoot a 40” ram. He saw a super cub land on a ridge for a couple hours then leave. He told...
Alaska sheep training in several simple steps
Get a stair stepper.
Hire someone who hates you.
Get a garden hose with sprayer attachment.
1. Get on the stair stepper with 100lbs in your pack, put a rock inside one shoe right off the bat.
2.give that someone who hates you a car atenna or...
That’s a cabelas scout three man tent. Really like it. Only one flaw is the tent fly opens over the tent door so if both are open stuff drips right into the tent floor from outside. The Stephenson warmlite tent should be here in August.
I’m with snyd. For me a successful (killing) Sheep hunt is more enjoyable than a successful (killing) moose hunt. On the same hand, a non killing trip of either specie, Sheep is still more enjoyable. Any trip into the mountains is better than a trip into the brush!
