I hear that, I've just heard you can get a few more firings from srp brass, especially if you load on the hotter side. But I could avoid the small flash hole issue altogether by using lrp brass.
I am about to buy a 6.5 Creedmoor, and can't find any Barnes factory ammo in stock. Not a huge problem as I do reload, but I have found a lot of mixed opinions as far as brass goes. I've heard good things about Alpha, Atlas, and Peterson, but would love to hear you guy's personal experiences...

I have a Savage 11 hunter blued/synthetic in 22-250 with 22" barrel for sale. This would make a great donor action for a 308 or 6.5 build. There are a few beauty marks in the stock, but only 1 scratch that can be felt by the hand. It has a set of Warne maxima bases on...
I stumbled across Peterson's 300 win mag long brass today while searching for new brass as my stash of new brass is down to 100 pieces. The concept is intriguing to me, and seems like a good idea. Just wondering if any of you guys have any first hand experience with these and Peterson brass in...
Leupold vx freedom 2-7x33 might not be a bad choice if you can find one. Or maybe the same one in the rimfire model where the parallax is set at 60 yards. I believe all the centerfire scopes w/o parallax adjustment are set at 150. It might be different for a 2-7x but I'm not sure.
I have a Remington 700 in .300WM with the limb saver factory pad, and I watch deer fall in the scope, even with TTSX 180's. This rifle has a sporter barrel, and is awfully light for a .300, yet somehow it is pleasant to shoot and plenty accurate. I feel like Remington got the bore axis just...
Don't worry about hitting bone with Barnes bullets. They are at there best when you hit bone. Thats the main advantage of a mono, they penetrate like no other. On deer you kind of need to shoot the shoulder with heavy for caliber bullets. On elk I almost guarantee if you shoot ribs it will exit...
Agreed, not what you want for dialing but thats not I use mine for. I have always found the eye relief to be generous, not sure what you mean by the eyebox sucks. But they've always been clear and crisp and I've never had a bit of trouble out of any of mine. How many have you owned?
I agree with Tod, try the 130's, copper bullets are a whole other animal than lead. They work best when pushed at extreme velocities. I'll link a video below of a 130 fired out of a 30-378 weatherby at 4100 fps plus that i think will be very illuminating about the performance of these bullets.
I highly recommend the Simms Supercell recoil pad. My Remington 700 .300wm has one from the factory and it is legit. Its a sps stainless sporter that doesn't weigh much, that pad completely tames the recoil of the mighty magnum, should work great for 30-06, and I believe they are available...
My dad and I have both switched to Barnes bullets exclusively for our hunting rifles. He went to Africa a few years back and killed everything from springbok to kudu with a 300 win mag using barnes factory 180 ttsx ammo. He shot the kudu going away through the right hind quarter all the way...
Yes sir, I'm a firm believer in Leupold scopes. I remember like it was yesterday the first time I looked at a deer right before dark with an old VX-2, and it was like turning on a light switch. I think I was 8 years old, hunting with a .284 Winchester. That deer fell to a clean heart shot. I...
Agreed, I use Warne Maxima bases and rings, and I put blue loctite on the screws for the bases. The machining tolerances are very tight, they grip the scope like a vise,, and the torque wrench they sell to install their stuff ensures even pressure and contact on the tube. I run them on all my...
If you're looking for a nice wood stocked, pretty looking rifle, I did see a Winchester 70 featherweight compact .243 on gunbroker.com just a few minutes ago. It's a really nice looking rifle if a little spendy. The buy it now price is $825 on that one. I'll post a link if you'd like to check it...
The .243 is definitely a better deer cartridge in my opinion. That being said, I took a whitetail doe last season with my 16" ar-15 using Barnes vor-tx 70 grain tsx 5.56 factory ammo. Even through the short barrel, the bullet took off the tip of the heart and exited. Deer ran maybe 40 yards and...
Thanks for all the replies, the fact that 100% of you guys have said the same thing confirms my suspicions that vortex glass is not as good as Leupold. 90% of my scopes I've owned have been Leupolds. For hunting they will continue to be Leupolds, might give a vortex a try for a target gun or...
Thanks, this is exactly what I wanted to know. I didn't mean to get technical about light transmission, just how the scope performed compared to the awesome dusk and dawn vision the Leupold gives me.
