Interesting, Hodgdon usually lists their max charges on the mild side in my experience. Lots of 30-06 loads are not listed at what I call modern rifle pressures due to the prevalence of old military 30-06 rifles. I'd say if Hodgdon has a charge listed higher than what you're using than you can...
I've been looking for a good scope for my cz 455 22 magnum. It currently has an older vx-1
4-12x40 on it, which does well for most applications. However I was squirrel hunting recently and shot a squirrel at around 20 yards, and the image was pretty fuzzy in the scope due to parallax. I'd like...
I would keep shooting them if you are confident in the consistency of your charges. One thing I would suggest, is not to shoot them in substanially warmer weather than what you tested them at.
I honestly don't know, it's a 70's vintage M77, it will shoot up to 175 partitions though. My dad used that bullet to shoot a caribou in alaska, and they shot under an inch as well. That bullet floored the caribou with a double shoulder shot. I think the 7mm is a great choice for anything short...
Anybody used the Tract Toric 3-15x? I've really intrigued by the great price for a scope with Schott glass, and the lifetime warranty. As long as they perform well in low light, and I'm sure they do with the German glass, I'm probably gonna try one unless someone can share bad experiences with them.
I shot 140 Nosler BTs out of my old ruger 7mm for 20 plus years and they were great. Easily made the velocity numbers youre looking for. My rifle is not the most generally accurate rifle I own, but its always dead on for cold bore shots, which to me is the only one that matters for hunting. It...
I've seen the remington model 7 hs precision at 6.1, most other "light" rifles right around 6.5. The Tikka T3X lite and superlite are both 6.6 lbs, and considerably less money than something like the x-bolt tungsten. The Howa mini action is a less expensive mag fed option at right around 6...
$325 shipped. Older model Nikon Monarch 4-16x42 side focus in near perfect condition with box, manual, cleaning cloth, and factory flip-up lens covers. The lens covers have been on this scope it's whole life, and it has never been hunted. The glass is 100% mint condition. Its only been to the...
I have a Bodum double wall stainless french presh that would work well for camp use. They usually have glass carafes that lose heat quickly and break fairly easily. This double wall stainless one will keep it hot a while if you rotate the lid to the closed position.
Probably a bit light for elk, but lethal on deer. My buddy killed a couple whitetails with them last year, broadside shoulder shots on both, drt and pass-throughs on both. They were the vor-tx factory ammo in 308. I've had surprisingly good luck with accuracy from their factory ammo.
Watching this thread, please update when you get some range time with it. I'm intrigued with this design as well, seems like a solution to a problem I've had for a long time.
That picture is actually of an entrance wound! One of the stranger terminal performances I've ever seen. The deer was 20 yards from me right under my stand quartering away. That was the entrance and the exit looked fairly normal. That side looked like a skillsaw blade went through it. 7mm rem...
Shot them for 20 years or so, and I agree, vicious internal damage. I never shot any elk size game with them, and I could definitely believe they might not exit on something that big. But on deer and pigs I can assure you they will almost always exit.
Maybe at the front, but the base on the nosler is pretty thick. I always got great penetration and exit holes on deer. Elk would probably be different, but maybe not, I couldn't say. I know I shot a 350lb boar with a 140 nosler bt 7mm rem mag through the shoulder and it came out the backside...
Nosler ballistic tips are hunting bullets. They sell them as a varmint bullet in smaller calibers, and they shoot for me about as good as Sierra matchkings, but they are classified by Nosler as hunting bullets. I used to hunt with the 7mm and 30 cal varieties before I switched to monos. Lots of...
