That is pretty early for Glacier unless you enjoy snow shoes and mixed snow/ice hiking. Many of the higher elevation trails, lakes and views that Glacier is known for will not be accessible yet. Lower elevation trails should be accessible and fewer people in the park.
Your trip back to Bozeman...
We had an Acadia and now own a Highlander. Kids, travel baseball, dog, etc… IMO the Highlander with second row bucket seats is the way to go. Easier access to the third row. Third row bench folds flat in two sections so you can have 1,2 or 3 people in the third row and maximize storage room...
I purchased Ionics about 2 years ago. 3 x 50 ah for 36V Ghost Motor and 1 X 125 ah for cranking battery and electronics (2 X 12” Lowrance). I also purchased the Ionics 4 bank charger.
I run them very hard on many days. 12 hr days running the bank in the spring or spot lock in the wind on a...
I have harvested a lot of elk with my Browning 300 WM, Vortex Viper 6-24x50, 180 gr accubonds. Deadly at 50-600 yards.
Recently purchased a CA Ridgeline FFT Ti 7 PRC, Vortex Razor 3.5-15x42. Plan to work on a load this spring after break-in. Lightweight gun for backcountry hunts.
I hunt regularly in Griz areas and have never have never had a bad encounter. However, in high density areas (around Yellowstone or Glacier) we always hunt in pairs and take extra precautions for backcountry camps. Processing an elk or tracking a wounded animal alone in Griz country is a risk I...
I cary a 10mm Glock when in Griz country. I have pulled it one time with a Griz at 35 yards, did not fire since bear was just as surprised and decided I was not for dinner.
Depends on spring snowfall but I expect it will be fine. Many of lower slopes are already open due to the mild winter. If you have not hunted this area of SW MT in the spring, be prepared to deal with ticks. They can be thick in some areas of the Bitterroot. Manageable if you are prepared.
Thanks for all is the suggestion and ideas. All new 1/2 trucks (please correct me if wrong) have very little clearance between the back side of tire and suspension or break line mounts on the frame axel for at least 2 tires and all 4 tires on some trucks. Wheel well clearance on turning can be...
Looking to purchase a 2000-2024 1/2 ton truck with clearance for vbar chains on all 4 tires. Most 2024 trucks 1/2 ton or smaller (Ford, Chevy, GMC, Dodge, Toyota, Nisan) do not have clearance on backside of tire for chains. Anyone know of specific brands with newer model years that allow for use...
Thanks for the replies to this thread. After a lot of reading and research I ordered a CA Ridgeline FFT Titanium in 7mm PRC and Vortex Razor HD LHT 3-15x42. This will be a lightweight set-up for backpack hunts.
I have run across salt blocks 3 times while hunting the same area during rifle season in MT (3 different years). All were in National Forest Service lands. Not sure if they were illegal baits or leftover from summer cattle grazing leases. Each time the area was completely covered in fresh elk...
Agreed, there are many public land areas/units where harvesting a deer is easy. If you put in some time and are willing to get away from people success should be 100%, unless you are looking for a a mature buck.
Thanks for the information, very helpful. I would like buy a new light weight mountain rifle for backpack hunting in MT. Thus, weight is important but accuracy out to 600 yards is critical in the areas we hunt. I would like to spend under $5k for gun+scope so the CA seems like a good choice...
Thanks for the quick response. I assume the rail and pipe insulation adds about 5 oz so the factory weight would be around 5.4 lb. With an advertised weight of 4.8 lb (short action and 20” barrel) I am a bit surprised by the increase in weight (~10 oz) with a long action and 2” more barrel.
Looking to purchase an ultra lightweight mount rifle in 7mm PRC. Christensen Arms only publishes minimum weight (short action) for each style of rifle. Does anyone have the weight of a newer Ridgeline FFT Titanium in 7mm PRC?
