I have a safe full of rifles in similar calibers as the OP. I would buy a bolt action 223. I shoot mine 10 times as much as any of the others. It’s enjoyable to shoot, ammo is less expensive, and reloading components are available.
Ive used all three lines. The 4-16 ATACR is the most useful of them all. Just bought another from a member.
The 2-10 NXS is a great scope if you don’t mind SFP. I’ve never found it to be a hindrance hunting. I zero at 200, hold high out to 300 hundred. Crank it to 10x and dial if it’s farther...
Mechanic, welder, controls electrician for the pump industry. Ive worked on everything from municipal treatment plants, amusement parks, nuclear power plants, golf courses, to agriculture. I’m sitting here waiting to put my truck on a barge to go across the Cape Fear River to work on a pump...
I bought my wife an outback in 21 to replace her full sized SUV. She commutes about 80 miles a day round trip. I love that car, it’s easy to drive and park and it sips gas compared to my pickups. My two sons liked it so much both bought Subarus for commuters. We drove my youngest sons Crosstek...
Permethrin on your clothes for ticks and a Thermacell for mosquitoes. Deer flies and horse flies will be mostly gone by then.
The majority of deer activity will be early and late if its still warm.
SOP for property management companies. Part of the problem is your payment probably has to be authorized by several people and just slows everything down. And they’re working on thin margins and want hold onto money as long as they can. Make them pay for materials up front and if it’s a longer...
I live 45 minutes from Dirty Myrtle. There are plenty of hunting and fishing opportunities of all kinds. Lots of public land within a couple of hours drive. I’ve killed deer, hogs, ducks, doves, turkeys, and bear within an hour of downtown Myrtle Beach. The opportunities are there if your...
That’s a great time to hunt. Bucks will be in the cruising chasing phase and the weather will be starting to cool off. Bring a thermacell and just pay attention to where you put your hands and feet. I’m in the NC/SC woods and swamps year round for 50 years and can count the number of close...
I can’t image being a western resident not being able to at least get an antlerless tag.
We are definitely spoiled. I can hunt deer from August 15 to Jan 1st. Throw in a month long bear season and pigs year round.
I grew up with a Gheenoe 13 footer and a 7.5 HP Merc. I had a boat long before I had a drivers license and ran that thing all over North Florida fishing and hunting. My youngest boy still has one. Great little boats.
I’ve had deer drop on the spot, yet when cleaning / butchering them there is no apparent damage to the spine. My guess is they were stunned, I don’t know the medical term, by the impact and bled out before they could get up? I’ve shot a lot of deer and this is pretty common.
150 Nosler Ballistic tips out of a 300 WSM. I shot several does in the neck and the only thing holding the head on was a strip of skin. Shoot one in the shoulder and the front end was wrecked. I switched to 180 NBTs and there was significantly less damage, tougher jacket and slower impact...
I’ve killed more with a 25-06 than anything else. 115 Berger, 115 NBT, 117 Sierras launched at 3000-3100 are all a death ray on deer sized game. At 600 yards the 115 Berger is still going 2000 FPS out of my rifle. That’s enough speed to make that bullet work well. Longest shot last year was...
