.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

I wish i had the color blind excuse. Sometimes i have to just get hit with stuff point blank mid face to see it. I cant look at necropsy pics and know what happened either. "Wet behind the ears" as its sometimes known. Im ok with that, im learning, sometimes the hard way unfortunately. I wil...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

I might try the 95 NBT on the next one. The TMK does kill if it hits the spot. Seems like it goes in like a pencil, gets in the chest and just explodes the organs and then is done. Effective, just no blood on these deer (or buckets if you will). I wasnt expecting that. I wish things werent so...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Ill try that. I havent mostly because i get deer fever, this spot is making me shoot awkwardly, but it comes down to my ability. I likely can make the shot, i prefer the extra oopsie room for a misplaced shot. Ill give the front of shoulder shot a try, since these are 80-100yd shots. I just got...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

I suck at finding blood. I need buckets or for the deer to drop. I know my limit. Honestly, i rubbed the #4 deer with my hand to find a hole/blood after i found him and it took me a minute to find the one hole. No joke. Not a drop of blood on his fur.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

The 40 acres we have to hunt is realistically two spots of open field with thick trees/brush. You cant see a full grown cow thru the stuff at 15yds. Its great deer habitat but im concerned with the lack of blood for tracking. That being said, will the 95 NBT or 108 berger be better for leaving a...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

In my younger years i lost a few because i flinched from 7mm RM recoil. Im done with magnums. I also brought my .243w with 95 NBT and 108 Berger elites. Tempted to try the bergers to see what it does. @form could you shed some light on my last post related to the no blood at all "issue".

Need some feedback. First time deer hunting in 13yrs. 2740fps 77tmk TN whitetails First doe turned back, took the shot thru the neck, in/out and hit the front shoulder area. Did some damage to exterior of the shoulder meat. She flopped around awhile unfortunately. 2nd doe, did the ouch that hurt...

6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

Someone mentioned that they were using the 87 grain VMAX but had it at low starting velocity. I wonder what the jacket thickness is in comparison to the match bullets that people love

Hell, maybe my experience with .243w is just crap. Take anything i say with a grain of salt i guess. I get the feeling hornady favors published load data for the CM stuff so it looks better on paper, idk. If you can get 5+ reloads from the brass, then its probably ok.

^^^that sounds a bit over pressure. 6cm has a little less capacity than .243w, and book max is 41.1 h4350 and WILL NOT get 2950 with a 108 from a 16".

    Kids rifle manifesto

Like the OP, as a kid i had the 22lr, the bow, then the 20ga and then the 7mm rem mag. Ever since then i have fought the flinch/anticipation of all rifles. Little confidence to make a pinpoint shot, and zero under the adrenaline of shooting at a deer. I missed a couple, wounded a couple, and the...

7mm Rem Mag vs the new age

And the factory guns tend to have the twist rate to match, to hand loaders it doesn't really make any difference.

exactly, the 243w has more capacity. in a short action with heavies - 105-115gr, maybe the .243w loses some advantage, BUT, in my case, i can load it as long as it will hold the bullet. i hate case trimming, so thats partly why im researching. AI fixes that but can have feeding issues, the...

another thing for me i need to consider is im planning on using a prefit from northland, so it needs to be something they chamber for. their shillen line does have quite a selection.

6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

I didnt, don't those cartridges predate the Internet lol seriously though, where's a good place to find that kind of information. Also just because people shove extra powder in there and run it on the edge of popping a primer, I really don't want to do that, however I would like to know if...

6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

It looks like 284 brass is kind of hard to come by but boy is it also expensive. 6-284 data is just like 264wm. 26" barrel but the papers say its not much faster at all than 7mm with the same weight bullet, and in some cases slower than a 24" 7mm with a heavier bullet. Case of marketing to sell...

6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

I looked into the 264 Win Mag since I have a die for it and I have 7 mm brass, however it doesn't gain very much according to hodgon's data for the amount of powder increase. On paper it doesn't really seem like it would beat out 7 mm by very much at all and it's more overbore. My concern with...

6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

i would rather not buy new brass. isnt that an even larger case? i dont need more than 3000fps. i have 2900fps now from a 20" barrel AR. hell, the savage is in 7mm rem mag now, i think thats called a mach VI or something lmao proper barrel burner.

6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

Im in the same boat, trying to decide on what case to use for a new 6mm. Savage 110 long action. I have .243w cases & 6.5cm in large and small primer. I can fit a 3.4 COAL. i want to keep shooting 108 Elites. Im figuring a 24" barrel, like varmit contour. The issue is: 1. 243w brass grows so...
