    Some of the custom assemblers machine the action face and use a Remington style lug. I think it’s a solution looking for a problem but some swear by it. The steel Tikka lug seems a little hokey it works great. Some of the early ones were aluminum and would deform over time.

    Whatever grease I have on the bench, very lightly. No need to geek out on torque values. Tight enough not to shoot loose is sufficient. You aren’t going to tighten it past the shoulder. I like to screw them in and out several times snapping them against the shoulder by hand before I tighten...

    It’s easy if you have a factory rifle as they have an approved list. Never considered the custom aspect. Good idea to have a paper trail. Even at that, ultimate authority lies with the border agent. I’ve found them to be reasonable over the years. Our guys could take a lesson.

    Modifications would be considered blasphemy, yes, and you would most assuredly perish in flame for doing so. I’d recommend a different stock.

    Bear in mind that you may end up having to buy or borrow ammo if yours gets lost. I wouldn’t bring a PRC anything to SA. Bring a 30-06, 300WM, etc.
