Most of you don’t remember when these laws went into effect in the 60’s and early 70’s the fatalities from gunshots decreased dramatically from double digits in many states to just a couple or sometimes none per year.
This was all in the Midwest. We first wore red before blaze orange was...
I have seen pack animal trailers and camps at the chandalar shelf airstrip across the road from the DOT camp on the south side of Atigun pass. This was 15-20 years ago.
So from the perspective of this year’s hunters, Did the decrease from 3 to 1 deer for NR hunters have much of an affect? Or maybe when this regulation change took place earlier this year, it was too late for NRs to change plans. Maybe there will be more impact to NR hunter numbers in future years.
FYI, Resident hunting only off the Dalton highway in unit 20F. GMU 24&26 DHCMA are draw areas that can be applied for until 15 Dec, with drawing released end of February for these archery areas.
It’s rare to see Denali in August, but this morning was awesome with bright blue skies for about 6 hours as viewed from the south.
With that said, I would skip Denali and head down to Seward and get on the water. Lots of evening hikes such as flat top in Anchorage.
LB said it perfectly! We only keep the kidney fat if the moose is shot on our property. Rendering is done less than 24 after shot. We only keep hind quarter fat for the birds- woodpeckers and jays love it.
We render the fat around the kidneys, makes for great moose meat pie crusts. Not so much for blueberry pie crusts. Month of harvest makes a big difference in how many qts you will get.
Similar here in Southcentral AK, lots of clouds and rain this summer. I think it hit 70 twice so far. This weeks temps won’t make it out of the 50’s. Besides potatoes, the outdoor garden is looking bleak.
As htm84 wrote. Legally Passengers + hazardous materials = no. Hazardous materials on cargo flights only.
For helo ops same, also no passengers during slinging operations.
ADFG is closing unit 13 to caribou hunting. The herd has had several difficult winters and late springs. This only affects resident hunters as non-resident permits were eliminated last year for same reason. Hopefully federal regulators will follow adfg’s recommendation to close subsistent hunts...
Seriously, 5 parks in 10 days would not be fun at all. I would skip Denali NP for 2023-2025 because of the park road closure. Depending on the time of summer, Recommend going to Brooks Camp Katmai NP and the Valley of ten-thousand smokes for a few days. Then back to Anchorage and cruise the...
