Moose hunt in Finland (or Sweden)

I had my buddy from Sweden on to talk about hunting over there last year. We're planning a trip there soon. Maybe get to hunt seals as well. https://www.elevatethehunt.com/podcast/episode/77b7bc99/hunting-perspectives-sweden

    Inreach mini vs messenger

Reliability of messages incoming and outgoing is better. Dedicated 10 digit number to share with people to message with. App functionality is easier and seamless. The only down side is no screen on a Zoleo, yet, but it does have the sos buttons. You can also find Zoleo for around $50 less...

    Anti hunting Hunters in Japan

I actually did a podcast with a friend who has lived in Japan for ~20 years about hunting in Japan. As an American, there isn't any opportunity for us, but would defintiely be on my list it were. There is a very rich culture of hunting over there. Sorry for the plug, but this was one of my...

    Pronghorn's Status Across the West

There were a couple of reports on fences and invasive weeds. Woven wire are essentially a death knell to them and barbed strands have issues too. Both can be fixed with time, money, and cooperation. And there seems to be something of a silver bullet herbicide to treat cheat grass and...

    Pronghorn's Status Across the West

The 30th Pronghorn Workshop was this past week and highlighted some great research being done on the species. It also showed some very real concerns about their declining numbers. Virtually every state is reporting dropping numbers, some very quickly. The hardest hit areas are the core states...

Among The Old Oaks and Fallow Deer, by Everett Headley

It really should. The cost is very reasonable, even with logistics far cheaper than western deer or elk hunts. About the only down side is you can't bring meat stateside.

Updates on Idaho Nonresident General Tags

While at WAFWA I asked an IDFG this question and there is a lot of internal discussion with nothing to publicly release yet but they are aware theres an issue to fix. I also asked about standing in line and someone being able to buy tags for someone else to be added to the list.

No Big Game Tags Drawn, is this normal?

WY antelope have been struggling for past handful of years, but with a few good winters their high fecundity will bounce them right back. These would be the outliers in the "Betty Crocker slam." Still, if you HAVE to have antelope does, there are units with leftovers in WY each year. However...

No Big Game Tags Drawn, is this normal?

Answering your title question, no it's not normal. Certainly apps and applicants are up and you need to know each states system to be successful. But there are many opportunities to hunt each fall, particularly if you're ok with cows and does. Your budget and schedule will determine if you can...

Cape Buffalo: Euro or Shoulder Mount?

I'll be in Moz in a couple of months and working on some logistics. I've been going back and forth on a Euro or shoulder mount for my cape buffalo. Logistically and cost, the Euro is much easier of course, but the shoulder mounts look so cool. Maybe some groupthink can push me one way or the...

    DIY First Aid Kit

This is exactly why you should take an advance life-saving course. With the massive caveat that I am not a doctor and the provisio that this is for myself only, I alternate Tylenol in Motrin as needed for pain. People respond differently to the various types of pain meds, so having the variety...

    DIY First Aid Kit

I'd tell you to start with a WFA, or even better a WFR course, and then create your own kit. Knowledge doesn't weigh anything. Then you'll have skills to keep someone alive long enough to get off the mountain or get rescued (if they weren't expectant anyway). I'll also add I carry two CATs...

No BS - Best Bino Harness w/ No Magnet

I really like my AGC. As for the placement, with about $5 in materials, you can put just about any harness directly onto your pack in a way that it quick releases. I keep my original harness in the truck for when I go "light" without the pack and just the binos. I used to hate the weight on my...

    QAD Exodus/Muzzy Trocar

I've used the Exodus 125 for several years. Made the switch from Rage so I don't need to worry about mechanicals failing or being legal. Very durable, very sharp, and virtually no POI movement. I've taken several animals with them now.
