    Backpack Multipurpose for child carry

I’m currently using the Kifaru duplex frame rigged up with an Osprey Poco Premium. I tried to love the Osprey as it was, but honestly after years of using dedicated hunting packs that made heavy (for me) loads reasonably comfortable, I couldn’t stand that the osprey was uncomfortable with...

    Budget backcountry tent? Geertop?

Sounds like you found it, it’s the KidCo Peapod. Truly one of the best pieces of baby gear we own. At sub 3lbs and packs down flat, it’s much easier to haul around than a pack n play or other travel crib. At almost 13 months, our daughter still needs to be “contained” to sleep, so the PeaPod...

    ice ax and crampons

It’s going to really depend on where you are going, the Alaska Rand is huge :) if you will be on or near glaciers at all I would probably say yes, though I have done a number of sheep hunts in the AK range where I didn’t need them. Crampons are cheap insurance if the footing is slick, and this...

I need recommendations for a good pack for my wife.

I was getting ready to reply, when I saw Luke beat me to it. I won’t rehash what he posted above because it’s accurate, at least for me. I will add that I am around the same size as your wife at 5’3 and 125-130lbs. I like the kuiu pack a lot for summer hiking trips, or occasions where I know I...

    Wife’s Afognak brown bear 2017

Spectacular! Congrats to your wife, and to you on a great bear and an even better adventure! I might be biased, but I think wives make the best hunting partners :) thanks for the great story and photos!

Papa Bear 2017..The moose hunt...the good, the bad, and the ugly (not real ugly)

Congrats on some great moose. With regards to the totes, we bought some ourselves at the store in Bethel and paid $40 each. I think that's just what they cost out there. I also much prefer flying meat in totes over using fish boxes, but I suppose it's a matter of personal preference.

    Cushy AK moose hunt

No reason not to enjoy some comforts when you can! Plenty of chances to be cold, wet and miserable :) Great job on a couple of nice moose!

FL Obsidian review - Girls perspective

Thanks for this Jordan, always nice hearing another girl's perspective. More and more comp it's coming out with women's specific stuff, but nice knowing that some of the me s stuff will work for us too! I think you are taller than I am at 5'3 (you must be, you say you ordered the tall!)...

    Kodiak Alaska Goat Hunt

Sounds like an awesome trip! Congrats on a great goat! Weather on Kodiak can be an issue any month of the year. Flight delays (yes even commercial) and no hotel rooms available is always a possibility. We got an extra 3 nights in town trying to get home from our deer hunt at the beginning of...

    What sat phone????

I guess I will be in the minority here, but for our AK travels we much prefer a sat phone versus a texting device like the InReach. I should admit we haven't used the inreach (although we did use an early generation SPOT device for a bit). What it comes down to for us is logistics, and...

What sleep systems do you use for children under 5?

The diaper thing is a big hassle. We use disposables at home, but I actually picked up a few of the reusable hybrid diapers made by g pants. The outside is reusable but the inner liner is biodegradable/compostable so it can be buried. Haven't ended up using it much, but the few times we have...

What sleep systems do you use for children under 5?

We have not, mostly bc we sometimes go separately or sleep on cots where we need single pads. We use a Velcro coupler from exped and it works fine for our uses. The true double pads have always intrigued me though.

What sleep systems do you use for children under 5?

Well, it's not as bad as it sounds. Even lots of clothes for her don't weigh a lot since they are small. The Peapod weighs in at just less than 3lbs, which sounds like a lot until you realize that a pack n play weighs 25lbs :) we haven't done much true backpacking with her, but I think it's...

What sleep systems do you use for children under 5?

You can see the Peapod here inside our MSR Elixir tent: Sleeping in her deuter sleeping bag inside the Peapod, back before she started moving too much to stay inside the bag :)

What sleep systems do you use for children under 5?

We've been getting this dialed in since we started camping with our daughter (now 8 mo) last spring. We were gifted an amazing kids' sleeping bag made by deuter, with a zipper that allows you to shorten the foot box for smaller kids. My biggest problem currently is that molly won't stay inside...

What gear do you outfit your kids in?

No advice to offer for your older kids, but I have started accumulating outdoor appropriate gear for our daughter (now 8 months old). Because she's growing so fast, I am mostly buying used items from thrift stores and consignment stores. Camo doesn't much matter to me, but keeping her warm and...

    Sawyer mini problems

This was our experience as well. I wanted to like the sawyer mini, but never could get it to gravity flow like the standard inline. About turned my lips inside out trying to drink through it. We have gone back to the standard inline filters and haven't looked back. I do backflush with the...

    Size of chest freezer

We run two full sized uprights, and a medium sized chest freezer. The uprights are much easier to organize and find things in, but won't hold as much. The chest freezer holds a rediculous amount of stuff but it's almost impossible to organize well. I have taken to storing fish fillets in the...
