Solution Review - Leica 2700b and Kestrel Elite Part I continued
Likewise, when I was able to find game to range at distance, I was not disappointed, though the results were less impressive because finding an open pasture with deer in it at long range was not easily achieved. For a while...
With the increased popularity of long range shooting, many shooters are demanding more from their rangefinder. Range is only one data point among many, and they need equipment that takes into account environmentals and other effects like Coriolis effect, ballistic jump, spin drift etc., and all...
We have taken a few deer, hogs, javelina. All have been pretty dramatic DRT's, so far using 145 ELDX's from a 270 win, and 200 ELDX from 300 win mag. All have pretty much had the same looking exits, pretty consistent. But not had a chance to use either on anything big yet. I am confident in...
Have you killed anything with it, in particular Elk sized? My son is using this in his 270 win, velocities are a lot lower (right around 3k), but wondering how it would perform on Elk sized game.
Thanks for the replies!
I did find one video from New Zealand where they shot a red deer at 1690 fps....clean through...left a 1 in exit like all the exits I have seen with the ELDX so far. I compared that same pic with pics that another review from Panhandle Precision had...picts of kills...
Nice groups! My son has expressed an interest in having an larger bore AR platform rifle for hunting up to and including Elk. I would prefer some more horsepower for that sort of thing, but weight is also an issue. 11.5 pounds with bipod is not as heavy as I thought, but not sure it would not...
Anyone have any experience with what the expansion velocity for the 30 cal 212 ELDX actually is? I have asked Hornady and gotten 2000 fps, 1800 fps, and "maybe" 1700 fps from different techs. I have read everything from 1600 fps to 2000fps.
Been through this same decision making process, shoot a longer range 300 for both targets and hunting, and have an HST, so hopefully can share some helpful thoughts on this within your general price range.
I had the HST on a hunting rifle and moved it to a target rifle. Good things about...
Barrister,
I have a Tikka CTR, so I definitely like Tikkas. But I looked elsewhere when I bought my 300. Reason is that I wanted to shoot the heaviest bullets I could out of mine, so the short Tikka box and the 11 twist they use is not ideal for that purpose, especially at near sea level...
We have the vx3i 4.5-14 as well as the HST, but its a 6-24x50. Some people have commented that the Leupolds do not track as well as Vortex. I have a couple Leupolds and have used them repeatedly dialing out to 1200 yards and every space between, and have not had a problem. I also have never...
Sounds like you have a lot of advice here, I kinda have some of both of what you are looking at. I have a Tikka CTR in 260 Rem that I bought a few years ago before they were available with 24" barrels in 6.5cm. I bought it pretty strictly for long rangeish shooting at steel. Great trigger...
Hey Pocu,
Couple of thoughts that i hope help and do not make things more complicated. First, glad to help further via phone if that helps, it can be complicated to go into without writing a book on here, so PM me and I 'd be glad to help further if you like.
I have owned Remingtons...
I'm running the Black Diamond Trail Pros IIRC....saved my knees and ankles on several occasions. One in particular, a small ridge crumbled away beneath me, as I was going down, instinctively drove the pole into the ground above me...it flexed but held me upright even though both feet had slid...
Gotcha, I'll check it out, I am trying to get a tripod under 3.4 lbs, so with head, should be just under 4 pounds. But under three pounds would be great, but it sounds like I might need something a little taller and a little stouter for my spotter. I emailed Promaster to get some additional...
Thanks for the reply!
I wonder if this one is going to be tall enough....totally not sure. I am 6'3", and I'd like to be able to use it standing up. When I was a photographer, I always found using the center column degraded stability a great deal, so ideally, I'd like to get to as close to...
Has anyone used this tripod? Not sure the pluses and minuses, or if the listed weight includes the head or not. But if it does, looks really tall and versatile with a fairly good weight, especially considering it's aluminum. Sounds too good to be true.
Thanks for the replies guys. I am not familiar with the Apollo or the timberline 2. I'll do some research and get back to you.
Pete, I tried PM'ing you back, but your box is full. Want to chat about your bag.
Thanks!
