None of the RFs do well with temp drift, upwards or downwards, consistently. Kestrel know the problem with drift, so they provided an exposed sensor for fast response and provided a clearing solution. So correct temp on a Kestrel is accessible near instantly by clearing the sensor, then you...
You are correct, when running standalone, it runs on Leica's own ballistic software. Only when connected to the Kestrel are you using AB stuff.
That is one area I would like to see changed. However, even using something like AB Ultralite, like what is on the BDX's, would probably add...
Back in the early fall, I was asked by Leica to test and provide feedback on a new their new rangefinder, the 2800.COM, that was announced today at SHOT. As I understand it, mine was one of the first 5 built and brought into the US, so was not a pre-production, but earlier still in the process...
I got to use my WS in Colorado second season and frankly was a little concerned it was not as warm as I expected. I think that the reality is that it is a bit large around for me, so there is a lot of 'dead air' that leaks in an out. I say that because just this month, I was also in West Texas...
Like y'all here, I have had great response from Leica on customer service in the last couple years. I understand that in the past, CS has been an issue for them, and from conversations with the folks I know at the top of the chain there, they know it too and have taken decisive action to...
I can't comment on the First Lite, though from this thread, I understand it is a level warmer, but I can't personally say.
But on fit of the WS, I just got mine in. I wear a large in most stuff Sitka, though could get away with a medium extra tall (I like an XL for length, and somewhere...
I only have the RF at this time, but am hoping to score a scope to test along with it as well. So for now, I am only going to test the RF along with Kestrel integration. Hopefully I can follow up with another review on the integration with the scope.
Look what brown santa left on my doorstep:
Just got it and pulled it out of the box today. Been looking forward to testing this one out for a long time! Hope to run it through it's paces this season. First trip will be to Colorado for Elk, then run it through paces at my local range...
With the start of the hunting season, I had a chance to do a little more testing with my 2700b and thought I would pass on a few interesting things I observed.
As far as reach goes, I got ahold of a tripod mount made by Leica. Very nicely made, it allowed me to test some ranging out at Big...
Fantastic, thank you for the breakdown! It looks like I chose the 'midroad' option. I could switch to the Chamberlain, but I think maybe layering underneath would be more for me, in terms of flexibility. Sounds like maybe for me, the Chamberlain may be a bit too much of a good thing. I...
Well, hope I made the right choice, ended up going with the WS. I tried on one of the arctyrx hoodys, they are light for sure and seemed very warm. But I wanted something that could stand alone in the weather.
As for the LPP vs the Chamberlain vs the WS...Formidilosus, can you expand on your...
Thanks guys, yeah, been working with Doug and crew for a few years for my optics needs. Doug and I chatted today, he did not know, but Joel was already helping me. I just don't have my own decision made between all the options he has for me, so I am trying to break the logjam here.
Thanks...
J,
There are lots of good choices, but it depends if you are wanting a ballistic return or just distance. If you are happy with distance and angle modified distance, you have tons of choices. My personal favorite would probably be the new Leica 2400 R, but not sure that's on the shelves yet...
Tracker,
Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, the 634 is too short for me. I want to be able to use it standing using as little center column as possible. But on that 634, what spotter are you using and how does it do with the legs fully extended at max power?4
That's really my question in...
I am trying to select a tripod and have come to a bit of a decision I can't get past. For arguements sake, lets leave it narrowed to two different Manfrotto 190 Carbon tripods. Height, weight and weight rating are all the same. The only difference...one has 3 sections and collapses down to...
Huntharder,
I went through this last year, I live in Texas, so similar issue trying stuff on in my area. Long and short, I found that you just have to try them on, the footbeds are just too different. I tried Lowas, Schnees, Kennetreks, Hanwags, some others...ended up with Crispis. I think...
Double bump here, same kind of question. Last year in Colorado, was pretty warm, but there were moments when I thought I would need a little more warmth if the temps were 10 degrees colder than what I had (kelvin lite and a bunch of layers). Also, do some stand hunting, and last two years...
