The 450 definitely puts them down. I much prefer the 350 Legend after hunting with both. Much nicer to shoot. If you do get a 450 do everyone a favor and take the muzzle brake off the darn thing. Ruger makes a nice bolt gun for both. Also the 450 doesn't kick nearly as much as people say...
I've used the HQ Issue rifle/bow case from Sportsman's guide maybe 8 times and it's held up really well. They sent a custom name plaque I epoxied to the case with name/number as well.
One time I quit hunting after a hard season and days not seeing one deer. When I got to the truck a deer was walking a trail out to the road and I dropped it right there. It was the last few minutes of season.
On a serious note I feel you can get right back into it and be even more passionate...
Gunbot.net lists a lot of places to buy and the prices... It used to work better before COVID times...
Freedom munitions is pretty solid most of the time.
You are going to eat some rare tendies at camp anyway?
Check out MaxiFlex cut gloves. They are very thin cut gloves with thin latex dipped fingers and palms.
Couldn't agree more. I'd be careful with that pistol argument they have plenty of ammo. Canada is also a bad comparison to the US. They have never had real gun rights or liberty.
There will be a lot more gun deaths when only the govt has guns. It'll be a bloodbath for liberty and more likely...
Same in Michigan. Many departments have said they will not enforce anti 2nd amendment laws. That being said one of the new proposals (hr6544-6546) it makes the State Police in charge of defining what an assault rifle is in the future...
Guns are used in hunting but are not solely tools of a hunter. More important use of these tools is defense of the people from tyrannical govts or invasion. The purpose of the 2nd amendment...
I mention this because many people are being taught that guns are hunting tools and this thought...
The new Michigan proposals (HR6544, 6545, 6546) are also really bad. Very similar in what is termed an assault rifle (detachable mag, and one of a few features: heat shield, pistol grip etc) but two steps further in requiring registration and disallowing all long arms in public areas...
Kifaru Woodsman with a guide lid for day pack as well as in my stand. I strap an old kelty kids carrier to the kifaru frame for off-season exercise with my kids as extra weight. That Kifaru frame is like an extra spine for my fukt up back. Grateful to be able to carry my kids/quarters for miles.
Temperate weather military issue boots serve me well. Altama have been last few pairs but bellview and wellcos served me well too. They are tough as nails and waterproof/goretex. I use the cold weather versions when less than 10F stand sits.
Strapped a kelty kid carrier to my kifaru pack. Took off the straps and waist belt off the kelty and it carries very well like this. Life is much better having my little man out while I'm hiking.
Hunting Beast and his forum is a good resource. Before the echo also. I love the MIHunt app for scouting in Michigan. There is a tree type layer that show size, density and tree types on the map using color code and numbers. Not sure how that data is found in other states...
I love my Savage 30-06. Recently put a new scope on it. Extremely accurate rifle. Unless you are wanting to keep that old 06 in the safe for safe keeping I'd get him out there killing deer with it. If you going to get a new gun a 308 would be pretty slick and he'll be able to shoot a lot with it...
I have found the same to be true with my set up. I find it's much easier for me to carry my coveralls rolled up and cinched/strapped to my tree stand or pack than it is to carry many layers and I stay so much warmer. I'm usually stand/still hunting whitetails though. I do still have a base layer...
I generally like sarcasm/comedy but you wont find many liberals on a hunting forum to appreciate that.
I see what you are pointing at but I think it is short sighted. I would agree that wolves/lions could have a place if managed properly but it is clear their numbers will not be managed...
I think the difference is most of the animals you listed are fair game to kill in most places, especially problem animals. It's a hot topic because people feel they can't defend their own from wolves and many people are very unreasonable in the way they approach the conversation. A lot of...
