I never stated I was going with a bdc. The original reason for the thread was just to see what all was out there similar to the shepherd scopes. And I knew most everyone would choose win mag over weatherby. I'm not sold either way..just doing my research now

Idaho otc tag..into elk every day but didn't make it happen until the morning hunt of the last day. we spotted a small herd and made a move. 450 yards across a small canyon. She's a trophy in my book. a buddy also was able to harvest a cow and another buddy a 5x5 on this hunt.
Was very...
well...
you are pretty late to the game, season opens tomorrow morning. 'trophy bulls' are draw only, as are cows...so you're stuck with spikes if you have a general tag.
people in NE WA who know where the elk are, are very tight lipped about it.
as for elk numbers..skip those areas and head to...
I had been looking at some of those Fierce set ups..
I know not as popular of a cartridge on here but I had been leaning to go with a 300 wby. Why? Why not. Also a good friend has been reloading and hunting with his for around 12 years, and he is the one who is more or less showing me the ropes...
budget on the rifle end of things is probably between 1500-2k...
glass was looking to be under 1500 or so...the or so means I know how budgets always work with new toys.
I get the argument for dialing to exact environmental situations each time for different hunts.
This thread was more to start conversation on the different options...I am not one of those who pulls a gun out of the safe once a year to shoot.
I shoot recreational year round. I was able to...
long range BDC or turrets
Had my first taste of longer range hunting this year and now I'm more or less hooked and looking to forego my holiday vacation for some new toys ;)
I have some friends who took me out elk hunting(i usually muzzle load or archery hunt and was able to harvest my first...
are you only looking for a bull, or a cow as well?
in my experience late in the season its all about feed.
elk, especially big bulls, seem to hang in areas until snow is almost to their belly and feed is non existent.
i know its different, but when I hunt late season archery here in eastern wa...
what's your go to for shooting from steeper terrain, where prone isn't really an option?
I ask because this is more what I find myself in for these types of situations, so sitting and shooting off the tripod seems to work the best, one leg directly under the rifle and the two rear out to the...
the primos trigger sticks tripod are great and surprisingly stable.
watched a buddy drop an elk at 960 yards off of them this year, one shot.
i shot my elk sitting with them at 450.
the tripod version is unbelievably more stable than bipod version.
all of those tripod attachments are quite...
it looks like the ascent has a base that offers 3rd axis adjustment from S&S archery.
i'd give them a call about this.
although, 15 feet high of a shot does not sound like 3rd axis level adjustment issues. from my (very basic understanding and I will not be offended if I am corrected here) 3rd...
agreed.
my tikka t3 superlite in 30-06 with a simple vx3 3.5-10 with CDS hits what I aim at out to 450 and carries over 1500 ft-lb of energy to boot, I know you wanted a removeable brake, but shouldn't need one with an 06 especially if you put a limbsaver on the tikka.
it seems funny to think...
Cut back to 1 knife (or 1 fixed and one replaceable blade and get rid of the sharpener), why 2 nalgenes and 2 dromedary bags?
your sleep system is heavy. you could cut an easy 2 lbs (plus a fair amount of bulk) there without going to a quilt.
assuming your pad is the regular, thats 1lb 10 oz...
Can't answer your specific front clearance issues..but the issue for many trucks is the UCA and tire clearance. on my tacoma I do run wheel spacers with a small lift and slightly bigger tires on stock wheels.
With this..I can run lower profile front chains up front.
Now..Where do you live/what...
get the 5500.
i have the 3500, hunting partner has the 5500.. like said above, in daypack mode you wouldnt tell the difference between the two.
i wish i would have done the 5500...but the flipside is the 3500 makes me pack smarter
I just picked up the cabelas/vortex intrepid spotting scope (20-60x 80mm, claimed weight 59 oz). Previously my spotter set up was a minox md50 with a slik sprint 150...now i know this tripod won't hold up with the 80mm scope with any sort of wind..so i know i need to upgrade.
problem is i don't...
