Well I ran my Ruger American so hard I broke the roll pin that holds the firing pin in place. I fixed it with an after market part from the local hardwear store. So I might be a bit rougher on my gear than average.
Do Howas with the other mags have feed problems? I was thinking about a project with a Howa but this is not encouraging. And the bolt wracking/heavy trigger issue is concerning.
No brown bears yet. I'm toying with the idea of trying. I really liked the idea of a light Howa but with the problems Form has with feeding and reports of trigger problems I'll wait.
My understanding is that there were 3 plans with the P14 Enfield rifle.
1. Replace the British SMLE 303 rifle with the P14 firing a new 7mm cartridge. This idea was dropped, before WWI I think
2. Some were made for Britain in .303 in US factories but were not really common as I understand it...
Has this been tried yet? I keep coming back to the following facts
1. No 5 inch can that I am aware of is hearing safe.
2. There are multiple cans in the 6-7 inch range that are hearing safe or close to it.
I'm thinking a pin and weld 14.5 inch barrel with a 6-7 inch suppressor would be a...
Sounds like a bait hunt. Different experience obviously. Spot and stalk would be interesting but unless they know what they are doing (i.e. it's not a last minute thrown together thing) I'm not sure your odds would be great. I don't hear much about non bait hunts around Delta. See more about...
My memory is rusty but I thought the Yellowstone wolves were kept in pens for a period of time before release so that they (theoretically) lost interest in returning to Canada. Supposedly that kept them in Yellowstone. This seems to have been more of rushed deal so I wonder if the wolves aren't...
I was researching bears and learned something interesting. Most people don't realize that bears shed their claws and grow new ones each winter. Usually this happens during hibernation. But sometimes you get lucky and find an early "shed" in the snow when it begins to melt. Scientists believe...
I sort of like the idea of 1.5x. Maybe not for room clearing but for bears up close I suspect it would be better then iron sites and better then 2.5x. But I wonder how much difference it makes. Shoot a bear at 100 and it charges... you aren't really handicapped that much until he's basically on...
I did the ultralight backpacking thing for a long time before I got back into hunting seriously. In that community stand alone bivies are less popular than a small tarp combined with a water resistant (not water proof) bivy. Weight is pretty much a wash and being under a small tarp in the rain...
I'm a bit different. My theory is most kids cut themselves a few times while they learn. So I don't give them large razer sharp blades. I'd suggest dulling it a bit so small mistakes aren't ER visits (done that). This goes against the old "sharp knives are safer rule" but it was my experience...
This one is tough. My kids are adopted. I won't go into all we've dealt but lets just say not all kids have the same needs. Ours struggle with impulse control so we went farther towards the protective side of things then most.
We tried a flip phone. Then we found out that all the flip phones...
Well I was hoping to work out a bolt gun. But failing that I think I can bring back an AR upper from the lower 48. Not sure of its accuracy but it was built by a knowledgeable relative with a free floated barrel. I just had the idea to stick 45 degrees BUIS on it. Not pretty but practical if...
If you read the review of the Credo the tracking is checked that might give you a ballpark about what to expect. I haven't tried dialing my Huron and probably won't. But I do remember adjustments for zero were consistent and I got it on target quicker then other scope brands I'd tried before.
I don't believe there are many non-resident moose hunting opportunities in Unit 13. If you are going to the expense of an out of state hunt and guide I would look at another unit with a higher likelihood of success.
