Any Thermal Engineers out there? Can I have a meat cooler and a smoker in one??

Hey guys, I'm headed to Newfoundland the end of September for moose hoping to bring back some moose meat to Michigan. I've been toying with making a small walk in cooler for a long time and think I'm going to do it. As I was ponding this project, I thought about the smoker I've also been...

    Empty Nester Blues

When my son finished college he came back home until he found a "real job." He's a good young man and my best friend and his mom loves him dearly too - so it was ok with us. Two years later we was still working at Nissan putting parts on truck frames on the assembly line. I finally sat him down...

    Newfoundland Moose Rubber Boot Recommendation

Hey Guys, I've got a Newfoundland Moose Hunt coming up in 2.5 months and was hoping someone could recommend a good moose marsh rubber boot? Two issues to consider with my feet. I wear a wide and I have high arches. The Lacrosse boots I've tried fit so dang snug to my ankle and top of my foot...

    Stop apologizing

I used to have this buddy who was an absolute killer. He could shag up a light post in the Walmart parking lot and kill a big buck I swear - he harvested some very nice animals. Without fail he would show me his kill antlers and sort of hang his head and tell me how it wasn't that big. I finally...

First big trip with little kids

Missouri is a good place for kids. There are some pretty mountainous areas and the trout fishing can be really good. A lot of those fish are planted, but planted fish are ok - especially for kids IMHO. Since you live in Michigan, the northern part of the UP can be pretty cool too.

Turkey hunting with a 3 year old

This story brought a tear to my eye. Love it!! I brought my boy with me turkey hunting when he was 3. The first time I called using a diaphragm I still remember my son's head jerking up and looking at me with amazement. Then he giggled. We never got one but a few days later he was walking...

    Mountain fitness for Dad

I'm 56 and live in Michigan. My son and best hunting buddy is 31 and lives in Montana. He can now smoke me on the trails when we head into the elk backcountry. Honestly - I find myself wanting to keep up with him because I don't like anyone waiting for me and probably because my ego doesn't want...

    Sell or not sell

I just sold a bunch of stuff that I had been holding onto for years. Mostly guns. I've been holding onto them for years in case I became a grandfather of kids bit by the bug as hard as I was. I finally realized that day wasn't coming and holding on to stuff that just gathered dust wasn't doing...

Money advice for a 19 year old

It seems like you are good at saving and making sound financial decisions for your age - which is great! One piece of this I don't hear you talking about is your long term career plans. Please don't take my next comment as a downer, but if you are in a job making $15.50 per hour and your next...

    Hunting elk alone?

The older you get, the less folks that are our age are interested in going back 5 miles to set up camp and hunt without pack animals. I certainly understand your dilemma. One thing I've done is talk to local folks that rent Llamas and see if they have any animals available WHEN YOU GO IN. If you...

Most Improved Award - #1 improvement you’ve made

When I was a kid (45 years ago), I got a crappy fiberglass recurve hand me down to start with. Compound bows were just becoming popular. I remember saving my birthday and lawn cutting money for a bow and calling around to different shops trying to find the right bow. I ended up going to a pro...

    Truck Buying Help

I promise I'm not trying to be a jerk. There just has to be more to your post that you haven't shared. You said you are a die hard yota guy who just bought a brand new Ford. If you are die hard yota, what caused you to buy a brand new Ford? The warranty?

16 years old and looking to build up points for elk draw.

Hello Joseph! Super cool that you are looking into this at your age. As the guys have already said, Wyoming is a good place to start for sure. I don't know what your budget is but if you can spend more on points above and beyond Wyoming I'd either go with Montana or Colorado. I would go to...
