Yes, be sure to update.
For packs, wear what is comfortable for you and pack smart. Any of the packs you listed will be fine, both size- and integrity-wise, especially if you'll have assistance on the packout. I use a 6000 ci pack (including lid). If you end up using bulky rubber rain gear...
I have a tag. We'll see what happens; I'm not specifically targeting them next week, but I'll be hunting in their area and will take one if a shot presents itself.
These are great discussions.
I do occasionally recreate in coastal brown bear country, and have worked in some of the same areas. My bear defense gun used to be a .338 Winchester Magnum, but now I carry a 223 AR in those areas. Never had to use either, but did have the safety off and on standby...
That does bring up an interesting question/point:
Are scopes failing tests because they aren't durable enough to withstand testing and are being damaged in the process, or are they failing while remaining intact and continuing to function like new after failing?
I suspect it's mostly the...

I second build your own if you're up for it. Or get a complete lower and build off of that. It's fun and you get to mix-and-match components. Here are some MOA'ish groups from my setup with an 18" White Oak Armament MK1.9 barrel (1.9 pound 3-gun thin barrel):
For me, that's the Chugach. It is light enough that I bring it with me in all weather (including sunny with no rain/showers in the forecast) to keep me dry going through wet morning grass and brush, but it's also great in sustained multi-day rain. Most of my hunts are going through brush up to...
This was a fun hunt from Sunday. I snuck up a valley low on one side and heard antlers rattling, then spotted two Sitka Blacktail bucks sparring/push fighting on the opposite steeper hillside above me. I had my suppressed AR15 and thought "I bet I can get them both." 325 yards shooting uphill at...
I do this as well. I actually keep it in my emergency bag with the medical supplies, etc. (up to the point where it would be the actual last round I have, in which case it goes in the chamber) so it doesn't get mixed in with the rest.
Usually 10 for my bolt gun-- 3 in the gun, 3 in the binocular harness, 3-4 in my pack.
My last trip out, my kid dropped my pack with my rifle strapped on, hitting muzzle-first on beach rocks. Even with electrical tape over the muzzle, part of a rock broke and lodged in the muzzle hard enough...
