    Copper bullets and whitetail

I’ve been happy so far with 150gr TTSX factory ammo in 30-06 since switching ~ 4 years ago. The thing I was worried about, expansion, has been fine. In .308, I would go with 150 or 130 if you can find the latter.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

More power to you. Just be sure to keep an open mind if in fact you do experience poor performance at some point. I conviceced myself I needed tough as nails bullets at one point, but found over time I preferred a construction that both expanded violently and held together to create a hole on...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

I didn’t get through the whole thing yet, as it is very long. I do not not doubt that there has been positive examples on shoulder shots. Where my head is going is that this bullet ,TMK, appears to be a standard cup and core design. While I have not personally seen bullets of similar design...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

This is an interesting thread. It would still be close to my last choice given all of the cartridge options we have, but I read roughly 15-20 pages to understand why the 77gr TMK was considered such a wonder pill, as at first glance, I don’t see why a lighter but tougher bullet wouldn’t do just...

Barriers or worries related to hunting

Went down the rabbit hole of reading some random threads on wildlife, land, and permit management in the west that get people worked up (y’all really don’t like predators) or worried about this passion. It got me thinking what concerns me about long term trends where I hunt, which is northern...

WTS Savage 212 Turkey MN Only

New Savage 212 Turkey. Bought last month and had buyers remorse. Have not fired. Was a display model, so has a little wear to the factory pic rail base. Asking $400 firm. Local (Minnesota) transaction only through a FFL.

    Win 70 EW Accuracy

Thanks. Will check the front base screw, but had used 2 different bases (swapped out leupold for Talley) so with the same results, so I’m guessing the screw wasn’t bottoming out with both bases.

    Win 70 EW Accuracy

Thanks. I don’t claim to be the best shot in the world, but did not have an issue turning it in sub MOA groups with my nearly identical Montana 99 in ‘06 in the same sessions. Or my Tikka in ‘06 before I sold it, and that light SOB was not fun to shoot and had bad trigger over travel.

    Win 70 EW Accuracy

Mentioned in a 30-06 thread that I bought a Winchester 70 Extreme Weather SS in ‘06 last year and have been really disappointed in accuracy. I’d say I’m looking at ~ 2-3 MOA with a handful of factory loads with really bad vertical stringing. I’m having trouble walking away from this one as...

    30-06 Rifle options

Bought a Win 70 extreme weather last year for my brother in 30-06. Hoped it would be the last rifle he’d need to buy. Unfortunately we got a dog. Combination of 2-3 MOA and really bad vertical stringing. Probably going to contact the manufacturer to see if they will look at it, but i see...

Big Stove for Tipi Car Camping

Nesting pipes will be smaller at the top of the stack due to the calidascoping (sort of) design. So by default, this will be smaller (I think with the kni-co stoves you lose about an inch in diameter at the very top of the pipe). You can also utilize a reducer , knocking down pipe from 5 inches...

Big Stove for Tipi Car Camping

Remembered seeing this one when I was researching nu-way. Folks hanging out in a kifaru sawtooth (similar material construction, smaller size and different shape as your 8 man) in super cold temps complaining of being too warm at a point. If running wood stove and wanting to limit stovepipe...

Big Stove for Tipi Car Camping

I use a nu-way with my arctic oven igloo. It is great for heating a smaller or double walled structure (like an arctic oven). Did a lot of reading on here before buying. It has been great, like staying in a cabin into the teens F and I’m sure lower with one burner out of 2 going most of the...

    Hangout shelter for “truck” camping

That would be too simple/cost effective and leave me without something to research, have buyer’s remorse, and eventually take up space in my garage

    Hangout shelter for “truck” camping

I’ve considered snowtrekker, but have not thought about renting them as a trial before slapping down $1-$2k. Taking that to the next step, I am actually this weekend hunting ~ 10 miles as the crow flies from Snowtrekker in Solon Springs WI, I should probably ask Duane to see if they will let me...

    Seek outside stove jack size

Anyone run larger (5 inch) stove pipe in one of the larger Seek Outside Tipis? I’m considering a 16 man for a hangout shelter while winter truck camping, so would like to use a bigger stove (kni-co, 4 dog etc) that utilize 5 inch pipe. Looks like you’d cut the slits in the stove jack larger...

    Hangout shelter for “truck” camping

Tried hot tent (Arctic Oven Igloo + NU-Way stove) camping for MN and WI November deer hunting due to COVID caution at our hunting cabins last year and likely won’t be going back. weather was relatively mild, so the 2 of us were able to do all of our nightly cooking/drinking outside in comfort...

    Nu-Way propane stove experience?

My brother and I both used a the higher BTU models this fall/ winter. Myself in an AO Igloo, and my brother in a 10x10 Cabelas Instinct Outfitter tent. Never had an issue heating either into the teens F, usually with just one burner, and that one burner often being turned down. The AO 12 is...

    Best turkey red dot

Also, with turkey guns I like adjustable sights of any type. With TSS I would consider it mandatory due to the tight patterns with turkey chokes. I use smoothbore slug barrels with screw in chokes in my remingtons. Nice adjustable rifle sights. Haven’t been impressed with the sights on...
