I have a Davis tent as well. Love it for elk hunting with 2-3 guys in it, and also had no problem setting it up by myself on my goat hunt but that was worth it for a two week stay. I could buy a smaller Davis w/ lighter stove, but not sure how much that helps me. With all the poles, stove and...
I've been doing more solo trips the last few years, that trend is likely to continue. I usually truck camp and strike out with my ATV from there.
My current setup is F-150 truck with trailer and ATV, that part works fine for the most part. My issue is the camping setup. I have a 12x17 wall...
Crazy story! I'm sure that kid has unfortunately seen plenty of this behavior before. If that's how the dad is willing to act in front of someone else I can only imagine what life is like behind closed doors...
Sounds like you handled the situation as best as anyone can. Great job, and I...
Sounds like you got one, congrats and pictures please.
I agree with your statement about how property owners are all different and you have to know who you're dealing with. I've seen both sides of that - some are straight up cattle ranchers/farmers that understand the situation and have no...
Those look very similar to the Grease Monkey nitrile gloves from Home Depot. I've been using those for years, they're great. Hold up great, and grip the knife well after they're bloody. I don't think any gutting glove is going to protect you from a Havalon cut so I wouldn't worry about that...
Try searching for local guides and make some phone calls. I've never found much on the internet. Could also try calling businesses that would be in the hunting industry in local towns like processors or taxidermists and ask them too.
For perspective (from the DPW E-20 Herd Management Plan which covers 61 and 62):
Unit 61 is 948 square miles total, which equals 606,720 acres. 75% of E-20 is USFS and BLM land, so approximately 455,040 acres in Unit 61. (assuming 61 and 62 have equal percentages of public land, which I...
Felix40 - I agree, I wasn't planning to focus on the burn area but there is still plenty of land in the unit that didn't burn. That fire certainly displaced animals, but didn't completely run them out of the unit. Might possibly concentrate them more in non burned areas? The ones that went...
I'm not worried about it. I've seen the size of the fire compared to the unit, there's no way everything has been run out of there.
If anyone has something productive to say I'm all ears.
Yep, I'll be watching that. I would imagine by late October that fire is pretty well tamed.
How soon after it's out do people think the deer would be back in that area? Would it be worthwhile to watch the edges of the burn? Or would it take until next year and some new growth for deer to be...
So I was quick (and lucky) enough this morning to snag a second season mule deer tag in unit 61. I'm excited to go check out the unit as I've heard a ton about it in recent years!
I'll be going in blind, might get a chance for one scouting trip but doubtful. Any advice on certain areas of the...
If you have both bags, I would bring the 0 degree bag. Weather can be anything from 65 degrees and sunny, to 15 degrees and a blizzard. Even if it's warm during the day, nights will still be around 28 degrees for a low. I've never been too hot in a 0 degree bag in October.
Mine:
1. In camp and everything is okay. (sent at the end of day)
2. Out hunting and everything is okay.
3. Got my elk!! No help needed, will send pics later.
Anything else, like needing help with an animal, car trouble, etc, I will send a custom message. If I'm hurt, the SOS button gets...
Very cool gesture by MIKEYB to pay it forward, and honestly the same thought occurred to me when I posted my picture. What would I do with the ones I have? I don't NEED new glass, but of course we'd all like an upgrade. I'd like to offer up the same thing if my picture is chosen. I have a...
