I am going thru the same thought process!!
I would like to have something for use by spring bear season. I plan to do as much hunting then as possible because I will have our
daughter here to stay with the wife ( first stages of alzheimer's). I will probably be hunting alone, so in order to...
I just called and talked with Neil at Camera Land, pleasant fellow.
I have wavered between the Kowa 883 and the Swaro ATX for a while now. I quit making optics decisions based on costs approx. 45 years ago,
when I got my first set of German binocs.(8x30 Zeiss). I always made the sacrifice in...
Hi Folks,
A few on here might have noticed that I have been MIA, maybe not??
My last activity on here was before my bear trip to Kodiak this time last year!!(Hard to believe a year is gone!!)
The trip was interesting, but unsuccessful as far as bears are concerned. The valley that my permit...
I am 65yrs
I used 8x30 Zeiss until 3 years ago. I got them in 1979. I now use 10x42 Zeiss HT. I still have the 8x30s and will always have them . They were upgraded by Zeiss with new lenses last year. They are still outstanding.
My newer 10x42 HTs are in a class of their own. When I got them ...
I have said several times on this site, and several others that if a person is willing to count on bear spray for their primary protection from an aggressive bear, then they are an example (or maybe I should say they might become an example ) of natural selection
They are very well made, and more reasonably priced than other brands of shoepacs !!

Greg is correct, the Alcan is usually better to drive in the winter!! Road is smoother, and I actually see more wildlife in the winter!!
Also no frigging 5th wheel campers!!!! I hate tourists pulling trailers!!

Yes, it does make you wonder!?
Years ago, before the Parks Hwy was built, there was an unofficial dump just on the outside of the Park. Some idiot had dumped some old truck batteries. A Trooper friend of mine found where a grizzly had chewed one open . Must have had a weird vitamin deficiency...
I have seen several ( 7 that I can think of right now) aircraft that were chewed on by our brown bears in Alaska. a couple were so damaged
that they were not flyable without major repair. The bears love tearing fabric off of tube and fabric planes. They are very good at smashing
plexiglass...
Helly Hansen Impertech, relatively light weight . Also, Peter Storm, if you can find it!!
I have also never experienced truly waterproof , breathable rain gear!! They need to test all raingear in Yakutat, on the North Gulf Coast . 200+ inches per year!!
They need to use it in the field...
I received the same flask from my sweetie!! I did not get the nice Pendleton pouch!! That is a great touch!!
Mine will be full of Lagavulin for my trip to Kodiak this Oct. for bear!! I hope to be able to enjoy it!!
Bob
Same thing has been going on here in Alaska for decades!!
I am disgusted whenever I hear "subsistence"!!! If it exists, it should be by traditional means!! No modern implements!! No rifles, no motored vehicles, outboard motors, etc!!!!!!!!
The so called traditional whaling is a joke here...
