Form means well. Sometimes his Super Moderator cape gets tangled in his keyboard when he types and it comes across wrong.
The 270 will work if you shoot it well.
If you want a new or custom rifle - go get one. There is no magic recipe for hunting Elk or most anything, for that matter...
I love my Winchesters! I use the 30-06 featherweight and have no trouble lugging it around. Accuracy is 1.5 to 1 MOA with handloads.
I'm assuming a 22" barrel on the 6.5PRC - would that just make it a 6.5 creed?
The idea that you'd take a snap shot at a distance that requires the hold over is iffy at best.
If you have time to read a chart, you have time to turn the magnification up to the usable range for hold over.
My hunting rig has a 3-10 SPF with the mil-reticle. In open country I'm walking around...
Owned:
Zeiss - No Failures
Minox - Failed - elevation adjustment quit working.

That's a big question that you'll get a million answers on.
If you are not sure about how you will like it - go get an inexpensive kit. About any will do.
If you are of the mind it will stick and you are inclined to statistics, attention to detail and changed based results (it's a nerdy hobby)...

Out of the calibers listed, I would go with 308.
Fit is going to be more important than caliber. The right stock, LOP and eye relief will make all the difference. These are things that are often overlooked for new...
It won't be a popular opinion, but I've has success with the Swarovski Z series. I use the 3-10 with the BRH. If I need to reach out there, I use the glass.
They have held up well for me.
I've been back and forth on this a few times, but now that season is over, I am ready to sell.
The scope is in great condition, perfect lenses. I carried it in my pack a few times this season and have pictures of the wear it received, which is very minimal.
I am moving to a lighter set-up. I...
