Overall I love the tent but do have mixed feelings about the floor. I use a moving blanket under the cots for a bit of insulation and comfort from the cold floor, and a floor mat at the entrance, but I think this year I'll add a full tarp on the inside, and a full tarp underneath on the outside...
I'd be really interested in a lumbar pack that'd mount on the duplex frame, similar to the outdoorsmans system. I understand having the frame stays still poking up isn't as low profile as a normal lumbar pack, but it'd still be lower profile than even running a daypack sized bag on the frame...
I've had a few different harnesses and currently use the fhf, and it's my favourite do far. I had an AGC cub, and felt it was a little too bulky and didn't like the lid. I switched to marsupial and really liked it, preferred the forward opening lid over the AGC's, and it was nice and low...
Sirui t-024sk with b-00 ball head comes in at 34.6oz. Remove the three lowest leg sections and it's 31.2oz, but I don't have rubber caps to protect the exposed threads on the bottom yet.
*Note these are located in Canada. Prices are USD*
Selling my Maven B2's. Phenomenal binoculars, only selling because I'm moving on to something else, I'm the original owner. There is a tiny scratch on the left objective lens, I tried to get it in a picture but couldn't, its not visible in the...
I've got a 6400 on a duplex, but yes it'll work great. Rather than cutting the buckles off the bag like in the frankenpack thread, I swapped the buckles from the kifaru compression straps to match the ones on the bag. Easy peasy.
Yeah, fits like it was made for it, literally everything lines up perfect. The only thing missing is with Kifaru the compression straps are built into the bags, and with Exo they're built into the frame, so you need to add those. I bought the Kifaru compression strap kit, and asked for a few...
Those things are unbelievable. We don't get em in Canada so whenever I head down across the border I get a king size from the gas station, and usually one or two other varieties we don't get up here, and quickly end up with a stomach ache. I'm a Reese's fanatic, and the fast breaks are my...
Kifaru lite frame with an exo 6400 bag. Mine with large hip belt and long shoulder straps comes in at 6lbs 1.8oz, without a lid. Not as light as some of the SO packs, but quite reasonable for the capacity I think. I prefer the lite frame to the K2 I was running before, but it wasn't life...
The math is off for sure. I believe the 1200 cal packages are split into three 400cal squares. From the nutrition label I can find, each square weighs 2.67oz, which puts them at 149.8cal/oz, which isn't too shabby. So a 3600cal bar would weigh just over 24oz.
I've tried a couple different brands of those emergency ration bars, I think I've had the Mayday and the Datrex, mightve had the mainstay as well. Honestly the taste wasn't that bad, texture kind of like a shortbread cookie. I certainly wouldn't want them for my only source of food, but packing...
Right now I'm just running a sandbag inside the bag, but I've been thinking about picking up a grab-it or a cargo net for training weight just to reduce wear and tear on the bag. I've only had it a couple months so no chance to pack meat yet, but I'd probably either just pack it in the bag, or...
A really good tripod will set you back $150-300. High end binoculars will set you back $1000+. I'd get a tripod now, and keep saving for glass. The tripod will make a noticeable different using the glass you have now.
The Oregon Packworks Binobro has smaller sizes for compact binos. The small/tall size is probably what you're looking for. I don't remember exactly, but I think my medium size was under 8oz, so the smaller ones would be lighter.
I can't speak to the k3 or the stone glacier frames, I have a K2, and am currently using a Kifaru frame.
But, as far as customizability, a lot of bits and pieces from different manufacturer's are pretty easily interchangeable, should you decide you'd prefer the Exo but like some of the stone...
