That's exactly what he told me also about the Loctite.
I use a primer pen regardless of the vane type and Bob Smith Industries Maxi-Cure for the adhesive and my vanes never come off. Like literally never.
They were inserted with CA and not hot melt. I don't physically break permanent inserts out and then re-insert shafts...you can compromise the structural integrity of the shaft that way. Plus, you don't get very good adhesion with the new inserts because it's difficult to get all of the old...
This is an old thread, but I'm going to update it for those looking at ordering from DCA Custom Arrows.
I had a terrible experience with them. Inserts and fletching coming out/off like crazy. I ordered two dozen arrows, which were over $400 to build, and that's after I provided the bare shafts...
@caltex
Hey man,
You are getting after it physically and planning early. You also didn't ask people where you should hunt, just how you should go about getting ready for your hunt. That's super refreshing.
The hardcore guys will know within a couple of units where you will be hunting based...
Changing the OTC units to draw only to make people burn points is really the only route I see to slowing down the creep, and that still probably wont move the needle in the long run.
The fact is that creep will never be completely eliminated as long as there is sustained/increasing demand and a...
My source is Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
I'm a hunter education instructor for CPW (DOW before that) and when I was taking the training classes to get certified a few years ago they referenced the fact that hunting related revenue dollars eclipsed that of the ski industry. I was skeptical...
I'm ready for the whole state of Colorado to go to draw only. Either that, or put a right-sized quota cap on the OTC unit tags like they do the general tags in MT or ID. I'm not out to exclude people, I'm interested in improving the hunter's experience....all age class/trophy potential...
It took me 11 years to draw my first elk tag in NM in 2020, then I drew again in 2021. 16E and 15, respectively. Both were great hunts.
I love how early draw results post in NM, something I've really come to appreciate vs. most of the West.
I'm going to archery hunt Unit 700 for elk & deer this year, draw results should come out this week to confirm, but I have enough points to pull it. I'll be up there the back end of Sept. and into October.
If you want to hit me up between when my season ends and when yours starts, I'm happy...
I must have misunderstood you. I actually thought you were saying it was a marginal shot, and so you wanted a bigger cut. I love quartering away shots! Carry on.
1.5" will quickly kill anything walking this planet if you put it where its supposed to go ; )
I get what you mean though. On a marginal shot, would you rather have a bigger cut or deeper penetration? I guess that depends on the species and your past experiences with marginal shots. If it was...
Congratulations. Way to get after it man! It matters.
If you have specific questions, PM me. I exclusively bowhunt and have killed a pile of high country mule deer. If you haven't already pulled the trigger on the IW fixed blades for muley's, I highly recommend going vented vs. solids for...
I'd personally shoot the 1.5" instead of the 2.1" on anything bigger than deer. 525g at 290fps is a friggin hammer of a setup. You must have a long DL/high DW.
Takeaways - you want a stiffer spined, more durable arrow that bucks the wind better.
If I was you, personally, I'd stick with .166 and go FMJ 250 with Iron Will components up front - HIT's and collars.
Lots of false statements in this thread. Good luck.
