Why are bullets frequently found just under the hide on the opposite side?

Okay. I have thought about it. Since it’s not complicated, How much does the hide have to stretch before the bullet breaks through?

Why are bullets frequently found just under the hide on the opposite side?

I’ve often wondered why and how bullets are often recovered just under the hide on the opposite side of entry. Doesn’t really matter what caliber as I’ve recovered different ones over the years. This past Sept I recovered my 50cal ML bullet that traveled diagonally through the bull and was...

    Packers Near North Park CO?

Worth a shot. But again, ANY sort of payment / trade of goods is frowned upon. Believe me, I got to know this first hand 30 years ago from the FS in North Park. ;)

    Packers Near North Park CO?

You can actually use anyone to pack out an elk. They don’t have to be licensed. Just cant pay them. If you pay someone in any way, they will need to be licensed. Find a camp with horses and see if they will help you out.

I should add, mule tape is mostly used by electricians to pull large wire through conduits. If you know an electrician, he may have some used stuff kicking around.

I still use paracord in certain situations. Especially if I need short lengths of something to tie. But you can’t beat mule tape for pulling or heavy use.

After that I went to the local community center and took a shower for $5. It had been a week! Then I went back to camp and had a whiskey. Maybe 2. Yesterday I broke down camp and went back to the local town and picked up the meat, registered the moose at the CPW office where they took an...

    Colorado Cow Moose Hunt ‘24

After I got all the meat, hide and head (yes head - have to submit it for registration) to the truck, I headed to the local town to get the meat to the meat locker for cooling down. With the high temps, there was no way I could get it cooled down in time. Once I dropped off the meat, I went...

Another important item to have when by yourself is a Jet Sled. I pulled a hind and a front quarter at a time to the truck.

Since I was by myself and the temps were going to be warm I got busy. I had several friends plus my son that were ‘on-call’ if I needed extraction help but this pack was going to be less than 100yds! If you don’t have or use ‘mule tape’, man that stuff is the best. Strong and lightweight.

Earlier this year I made a post on the moose forum about what rifle to use for this hunt. My 340Wby or ‘06 I decided on the ‘06. My Winchester M70 pushed that Hornady 180gr Interlock fueled by 46.5gr of Varget right through that moose. Distance was 80yds. At the shot, the cow actually...

I went about 30-40 yards and saw a small dry opening ahead. Snuck up to the edge and I saw a moose standing on the other side behind some willows. I couldn’t determine if it was a cow or small bull at first but then it took a couple steps and cleared the willow and I could see it was a lone...
