I assure you I know the difference and that wasn't a typo. Both rams pictured above were harvested with shotguns on a state wildlife area that only allows hunting with primitive weapons which is limited to shotguns or archery.
JJ did harvest a great Colorado ram on public land with a shotgun. I believe he was after this ram and this ram alone after spending the money for the tag. Here are some other screen grabs and lunch today. Great rams in Colorado so far this year.
Here's another angle on sheep captures and transplants - How many other states have benefited? Looks like a several to me. Colorado has a bighorn sheep management plan that caps the total number of sheep in available habitat. That keeps some separation to between herds to purposely limit...
Here's a great example nonprofits like the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Society and WSF working with other nonprofits and nonhunters to save a tiny piece of Colorado bighorn winter range in an extremely pricey zip code. Nobody has a crystal ball but if this native herd disappeared or dies out what...
Don't hold me to this it was 20 years ago - but I think the RMBS donated $20,000 or $25,000? plus some matching funds from the sheep specific Auction and Raffle fund where all the money is held. Here's a snapshot of the 2007 total sheep fund and expenses this was the oldest electronic file I...
@ddd-shooter I'd like to make the case that at least in Colorado we do see some very positive results from the Auction an Raffle funds raised. In 2005 the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Society used those funds with CODW to conduct a trap and transplant in January of 2005 to reestablish a sheep herd in...
That looks like a young cow to me based on her head face and shoulder definition. I'd wait for a older bigger more mature cow if it was my tag. Might be tender and young but there is significantly less muscle mass on that cow than a more mature cow.
Get the SheepFeet! I struggled with foot issues for years and tried store bough inserts, 7 or 8 different boot types, tape didn't work, braces didn't help, cortisone shots did. I love my SuperFeet and have 2 pairs.

Here's the link where they redlined all the April dates in 2024 when the season "starts" in several units.

Any place you can draw tag randomly or with a minimum # of years in would work . Utah, Nevada AZ - Wyoming is out for me in your situation. They only had 1 random tag last year. Colorado is reviewing there system so things may change at this point after 3 years of applying you are in the drawn...
In my mind it's worth entering <1Club even if you can't make the show.
From the rules - "The first name drawn for both <1Club and <1iClub is “need not be present to win.” Not only that, but the first winner drawn gets to pick which hunt they want. The next three names drawn do need to be...
Delete this thread or be prepared to be consumed by sheep fever.
One thing for sure states will and do change the game. I agree NM and ID are good for the random draw. I'd consider a multi pronged attack that included the WSF <1 CLub, multiple state wide sheep raffle tickets, as well as...
Never give up - You need to change tactics and location. See new country, glass long distance, look for a new hidey hole.
Like an old timer told me after an 8 day backcountry grind without seeing a ram deep in a wilderness area. "Now you've figured out where they are not." There's a lot of...
There is a sound biological reason for WYG&F to issue the tag. There is strong evidence that over population of ewes hurts lamb recruitment and overall sheep production. I've harvested 2 ewes in Colorado and will continue to apply for ewe tags here and in other states. Ewe hunts are sheep...
My first big game animal with a bow and first bow hunt ever. I applied in an area with the best odds of drawing but very poor harvest success. I think there had been 2 rams killed in the previous 10 years with a bow in the unit. It took me 23 days of hunting to find legal rams. I only saw 2 rams...
As a Colorado mountain dweller with 200 inches of snow a season I'd suggest a skid steer with a bucket and blower for deep snow and drifts if I can only have one. I have a multiple tool approach. ATV with a plow- never gets used. Jeep with a plow. Gets used 90% of time - Closed cab and...
