Ballistic tips going fast are typically more “explosive” than many match bullets, so I like it. The ELDx are not quite as explosive I hear.
Were those eastern whitetail? I wonder if there is a difference with them for some reason, maybe the sound? Do they get shot at more than western game...
I want to collect some information about “behind the shoulder” shot placement and match bullet performance here, like TMK, ELDm, ELDx, Berger, etc. in the poll. I am not interested in the hunting solids and mushrooming bullets (except do ELDx here) in this thread.
The poll is for animals hit...
Match bullets in the ribs kill quickest and if you don’t hit muscle, they seem to hump up and don’t run. I have a sample size of only a handful of bulls and one cow. The cow I hit just stood there until she fell over. The bulls didn’t make it more than 20 yards.
And, if you get a quick second...
It’s about 25fps give or take for most cartridges ever inch between about 18 and 28 inches. Hit the extremes and it might be more of less. Also depends on cartridge and barrel specifics, but 25fps is the number most people use to estimate loss. It has held true for me.
A buddy has a 20” 280ai...
Weird. Start saving screen shots to confirm..
Or just start with a new gun and see if it goes away, lol. I resort to the power button as my IT fix for everything. It’s usually user error, hahaha.
Interesting, I heard the same thing from a similar source about the MK 6 on rifles and at the school.
Ironically for this thread, his hunting rifle had a MK 5 because it had not failed for him. Of course the ATACR they used never failed either but were heavier.
My MK 5 has not failed and it...
Screen shot the environmentals and then the dope where you are getting different drop, and post them. I am curious. And we’ll be able to help possibly.
It saves the last environmentals in mine.
And, there isn’t a field for DA in my version. Not sure if you are putting in DA for altitude and combining it with baro pressure and temp, getting you compounded environmentals.
DA accounts for temp, station/absolute pressure and humidity.
Forgot to add that Shooter is easier and if it is working, stick with it. AB does get more complicated with some things that make little difference inside 800z
The odds that the problem is with the AB app are pretty slim to none. Problems I have seen are user error with input or ultimately a scope tracking error.
If the other ballistic engines are right, then my suggestion is to start over again with a new gun in AB, and carefully make inputs. That is...
When it is that far off, start with velocity, it if matches out to 800. Tweak the BC just a little bit as necessary.
Also, check you scope. Put a tall target with a grid on it and check if you can dial it 10 moa or 4 mil and see if the clicks equal the distance you dialed.
Confirm your height...
Way more goes into truing ballistic solution than just velocity. Your Garmin’s velocity is not wrong. You’ve now seen it’s not as simple as putting in a couple values. Besides velocity, the BC of your bullet and rifle needs to be tweaked. BC is not a fixed number, it varies according to how the...
Get proficient out to 70 yards and then limit to 60 yards.
Get comfortable in alternate positions and shooting fast and slow.
Practice shooting while kneeling, torso turned, and after holding the draw for 60 seconds.
Practice holding your draw 90 seconds and then letting down.
Practice...
Anything you load in a 300 WM will keep it fast enough to perform, and the speed will make it shoot good inside 500. Past that, the bullet won’t be as efficient and start to slow very fast and get more significant drop and wind drift.
I have an 18” 22 BR shooting 80 gr VLDm, I love it. Just starting work up.
I think It’s plenty to go to 600, I shoot my 22 ARC gas gun further. Shoot my .223 with match ammo and 14.5” barrel past 600 too.
I think the 22 GT is the biggest cartridge I would run in .22 caliber. The 22 creed is...
