22ARC VS 6ARC. Help me choose

You are torn because there is little functional difference between the two for your purpose, and you will not find any compelling reason to choose one over the other unless you narrow some criteria in the balance of factors. Ultimately, at the distances you are talking, 200 on game and 500 for...

    When to quit?

Sucks to work hard and not see animals, let alone not fill many tags. When I wasn't having success and eating tags without seeing anything it was because I was in the wrong place and I was doing things "wrong" or not doing the "right" things. I didn't know what I didn't know. I also had to deal...

Which spotting scope should I buy from this list (lowest prices found listed)

The Kowa 553 is the best bang for the buck, IMO. Look at birder reviews, the glass is fantastic. The flourite they use for lenses is lighter and doesn't shift colors like glass. Its clarity rivals Swaro.

    7mm Soul Searching

Berger 168s in the 280 ai are straight killers. So is factory Hornady Precision ammo. My 25 SST, a saum variant easily pushes the 133 Bergers at 3050 out of my 21” barrel. Pretty well matches 180 VLD at 3000 out my 26” 7 SS (another saum variant) for drop out to 1000 and is only beat with wind...

    Shooting magnums more better

I won’t even shoot a typical 30-06 anymore without a brake or suppressor. Yeah, shooting form/technique is the same, but it takes a lot better technique when recoil goes up. My thoughts are that the magnum exploits every little gap you leave in control. We all know a braked .223 has so little...

Arizona Late Season Bull Elk - Canyon Question

Get the wind in your favor, walk just below the ridge skyline, move slowly, glass into the shadows. Get there early and watch for them between feeding and bedding. If you can’t glass, but know elk are there, get wind and thermals in your favor and walk slowly while glassing with 8 or 10 power...

    What did you sew today?

That’s cool. I sell one for the big eyes. I hate zippers and avoid them, lol. And, it takes forever to prototype stuff out.

What is "proper cheek weld" I'm getting different advice

Any pressure affects the way a rifle shoots. There is no way around it. It’s why benchrest shooters don’t put their face or body on the gun. Not to say that you or others can’t shoot good groups, because there are all sorts of ways to be consistent. For you, if it doesn’t show up, it is be you...

    Does this action exist?

I don’t know that it exists. Not many control round feed actions out there… I have looked around at all the sub 90 bolt throw actions at one point and ARC is the only company checking your boxes. I would settle for a flush mag if that is the only thing hanging up and one doesn’t exist.

What is "proper cheek weld" I'm getting different advice

It was common to mount as low as possible. Shooting tiny groups requires as little negative input to the rifle as possible and making it as repeatable as possible. Mounting the scope at a comfortable height promotes an easy to repeat and as neutral a position as possible. Because low was the...

    Aero solus sa

I would grind the bolt or buy a shorter one. Or, drop a washer. Sometimes it happens that the action screw is too long for a particular action. Call XLR to see what they say.

Hey Texans, get a discounted custom Texas Flag Mini Tacky

WTS Save big on blem Mini Tacky shooting bags with Git-Lite

We made a production error and so we are discounting the "blems". These are extras from a large custom order. We pulled patches off of them, and the "defect" is that I can see where it was sewn on if I look closely, so we are just going to blow them out so you can benefit. You can order them...

    Moisture on scope lenses

Cotton wipes to absorb the water with light passes, then a lens wipe with alcohol will help evaporate water. Soft 100% cotton face wipes women use and a-tips are safe on lenses. Microfiber stuff isn’t the best as absorbing water.

Hunting Rifle Decision: Your Most Accurate Rifle or Favorite Cartridge

That seems to be edging towards my 22BR in my Howa Mini for a small cartridge and 25 SST for magnum in short action. Short and fat is where it’s at.

Issues with Vortex PST Viper Gen i

The PST gen 1 and HST are notoriously bad. I had that problem years ago with one, and so did a friend. Just like lots of other scopes of that era when new scopes were hitting the market for long range. Get it back from Vortex, sell it, and buy a PST Gen 2 if you want to stick with Vortex. Even...
