November '23 Himalayan Blue Sheep story

Thanks for sharing. I have heard this is a great hunt for the people and places, overall experience, better than hunts for much bigger sheep like the argali’s

Need help with building new arrows for my DW and DL

I say you should be fine with one of those setups for deer hunting. As long as it tunes well you will get plenty of penetration. If you wanted a heavier set up, will need to change components. Adding heavier inserts would be an option as long as the spine holds up. Otherwise a whole new setup...

    16" deer gun

I would say .243 for easy ammo and even less recoil. Super flat out to 300 yds. If your local ammo supplier has 6mm creedmor that’s an options as well

Should I load light copper bullets or heavy high BC bullets?

Depends if you want to shoot over 500 yds or not. If its less then a fast mono will be flatter trajectory. If you are shooting over 500 yds the BC will help more, with wind drift and ultimately retained velocity the farther out you shoot I have both loads for my 7mm-08, the 120 TTSX and a...

    25-06ai loaded with modern heavies….130’s

Since its a tikka with a long action bolt stop I would look at the 25-06 as the easy button. I don't think there is any reason to use the AI version with that caliber unless you want a laser beam! Now if you could use 280 AI brass and just neck down? that's not too bad unless you have to neck...

Moving from east cost VA to WY

That is absolutely a waste of time! You must start hunting asap! will only increase your odds down the road. I figure it takes at least 3 years to learn new areas, especially totally new terrain and style of hunting. Wyoming is great in that they offer reduced price Cow/Doe antlerless tags...

What power scope do you prefer for 800-1000 yards?

I like higher magnification, especially if shooting paper! I say at least 18x and I’ll dial up into the 20’s if I can

Rechambering Rem 700LA 270Win for lower recoil and great "heavy for caliber" hunting performance. What caliber?

You can custom order any loadings, doesn’t have to be “factory” for those who don’t load their own

Agreement ends domestic sheep grazing permit

Sheep don’t make money like they used to. No value for wool (unless it’s merino wool which it’s not) and shearing is a big expense. Only profitable product is lamb meat. So the sheep operators probably made out ok and now don’t have to deal with sheep. On a side if we can cut demand for lamb...

    supressor ready and caliber suggestions

I would go 308 in your situation. Better for stopping hogs. Recoil the same with suppressor. Maintain velocity better with a short barrel (faster for equal weight bullet in larger diameter)

    Utah Muzzleloader Proposed Changes

You don’t live in the west and see the ever increasing number of hunters and lower numbers of deer, elk etc. Absolutely opposed to crossbows in archery season, scopes on muzzleloader etc. I’d be fine eliminating the modern rifle season! Think of the opportunities to actually draw a tag in your...

    Utah Muzzleloader Proposed Changes

Any reduction can help with opportunity. I would argue that 3% increase includes a much bigger increase in trophy sized deer being killed as well. Scoped muzzleloaders shooting out past 500 yds greatly helps killing the big one

    Utah Muzzleloader Proposed Changes

The western states DO NOT have a problem with big game hunter recruitment. There is more demand than ever for Deer tags across the west. So I support removing scopes from muzzleloaders to keep it a more primitive hunt as intended and not another single shot rifle season.
