I have to say SD Pronghorn were the most jumpy crack head animals I have ever seen. When deer hunting I would see them from time to time and it felt like the pinned me from 1500 yards and ran like I was in bow distance. Hilarious. Makes some of the other Pronghorn I have been around or hunted...
Lots of great shots. Though this might be the most realistic of how we all feel during the average pack out! Though not sure Tanya wants a painting of that! (I am assuming that’s Tanya….)

Thanks for the inspiration everyone! Keep in coming.
This is a great shot, and like all good pack outs I am sure it has a great story. Snow is always tough to paint but I might take a run at it again.
I will keep everyone in the loop over the next few months as the pieces start to take shape...
From a hunting standpoint, I will not skip a beat. No matter the cost ammo is a tiny amount of annual hunting spend, even with significant Los development and range time.
My concern if lead prices skyrocketed, it will significantly impact the recreational shooting and competition shooting...
Not sure if this would be better in general discussion but I am going to give it a shot. Anyone here willing to share some interesting pack out photos with some good composition? Much of the imagery I am finding online is less than great.
I am a hobby painter and due to some health issues I...
If you want a cheap teepee to play with, I guess it’s fine. I bought one years ago and I still take it on some short family backpack trips.
That said I would never depend on it during a longer hunt with weather/wind or other concerns. The center pole broke on my first trip and a couple of...
Believe it or not, some of that water actually need to run to the sea. Fisheries, waterfowl and many ecosystems depend on it.
Or should we just sacrifice our pastimes so someone else can water a golf course or export almonds to Asia.
Don’t build your shit in the middle of the desert then...
Spike camp location selection & How close is too close.
All to often we hear, “the guy blew out the whole basin”. How do I, not be that guy!

Interesting. I would love to hear more information on doe management. My understanding from what I had read over the years was that Doe hunts were related to overall population control. Which is why they are used heavily in areas that are “over objective”.
My understanding is we are nowhere...
Just a reminder that the number of points required for a hunt only reflects on the scarcity of tags, not the quality of the hunt.
All too often we will into the trap of, “I blew 10 points on this hunt and a never saw more than a forkie”
Lots of states have hard to draw tags with crappy success...
You cannot go solo? I say grab a OTC tag and get hunting. I understand cost and schedules might make that difficult, but you only get so many hunting seasons in your life.
Best,
Phil

Privacy does not bother me too much. But boy do I hate hearing them when I am out in the woods.
Makes me fantasize about some signal jammer that sends said object flying off into the sunset. Not worth the drama, but it’s nice to dream.

This is one of the more interesting list I have come across. I prefer non-fiction, but some of the iconic fiction is a good read. I have read though most of them now. Skeletons on the Zahara was a great surprise. I also enjoyed blood river...
Sounds like the same crowd that decorates all the NF roads with beer cans and expresses “civil disobedience” by shooting at all the signs “cuz I don’t need no gubment telling me where to turn”.

I never said they were doing anything wrong, or that anyone was getting screwed. I was simply pointing out that your supply/demand argument was incorrect. But don’t hurt yourself too bad when you fall off that high horse.

But points do not have a traditional supply constraint. The only “supply constraint” is buyers. The price increase is a study of price tolerance/opportunity cost. How high we can we go before we lose buyers.

A butcher can likely give you more detail, but generally on game animals these cuts are too small to be viable. Outside of a large moose or bison game animals are quite small vs a beef. Just compare a tenderloin between the two.
Also if you hang/dry age you generally lose mode of the skirt and...
I recommend you listen to the ElkTalk podcast when he discussed the hunt. It will give you a fair bit more insight to what and why some of the decisions were made.
