    Elk or Deer?

🍿 Elk for me, would love to spend more time hunting big Muleys with a muzzleloader in September, but that's elk and bear season. October/ November on the sage flats is for deer.

    Wod

My "kid ruck" workout this weekend. Took the kids for a hike down to the river, 2 miles each way, almost 2000' of elevation loss on the way in, 2000' gain on the way back. Load one 28# 2 year old in the backpack, add 2 Nalgenes of water and metric s#%ton of snacks. Pack weight around 35#ish...

    Toyota Tacoma Advantages

I can fit my 2nd gen Tundra down 4x4 trails. It just gets a lot of new scratches if I do. For a hunting rig Toyota: 1. 1st gen Tundra Access Cab 2. Lexus GX470 3. V8 4runner 4. Taco I've owned multiple Tacomas, they are excellent little trucks, they will go anywhere you can go in a SxS, just...

    clothing made in China

Danner has boots made in Oregon, just search their US made section. Santiam are excellent insulated winter hunting boots, made in Portland. Cost is $50-$150 more than their foreign made version.

    Bring back made in USA..

$200/ hour might be closer to the delivered cost of the service, which is not what the actual tradesman costs. A typical journeyman electrician would make $32-$38/ hour, with a good benefits package which might be worth another $10-$20 an hour. A master might command another $5-$25/ hour...

    Bring back made in USA..

One of the big struggles we face in acquiring the amount of labor we need in the skilled trades, is this perception that these jobs are overpaid (ie ridiculous cost of skilled labor) already, which they are not. Considering that they take years of dedication, schooling, and effort to achieve...

    Colorado NR Cow tag prices

Not really discrimination.... there is a cost to use a resource, which belongs to the states, and is managed for the benefit of the states residents. If the feds controlled hunting tags, $760 would probably seem like a real bargain. You would probably have to pay a tax on the meat value of...

Colorado Wolf Introduction is getting REAL political

Share this with everyone you know who hunts, cares about hunting or recreating in the back country. My wife doesn't care as much about the impact on game animals, but she certainly is concerned about the safety of our small children in the back country. We are already dealing with a booming...

Colorado Wolf Introduction is getting REAL political

Apparently a lion and bobcat hunting ban is going to be on the ballot next year. A friend of mine who runs dogs for the county said if I wanted to lion hunt I better do it this year. I've seen more lions in the last 3 years than I have in my life, so that should help expedite the elimination...

Camping with a baby - advice?

They are really well made, and the trade in program is really nice.

    Why are people so unkind

Eastman's Hunting Journal "Top 12 best undiscovered OTC elk units in Colorado". A few years later and good OTC units start to go to draw. Loose lips sink ships. I just re-read the thread, and he must have received some nasty PM's... because everyone was fairly constructive in their advice.

Camping with a baby - advice?

These are awesome for camping with the little ones. We also take our little Jackery battery pack, and plug in the monitor, white noise generator, etc. We put our pack n play in the back of the pickup, inside the shell, and she could go to sleep earlier without worrying about waking her up...

    Why are people so unkind

They are attracted to the tunnel by the train whistle. It sounds like a REALLY BIG bull.

Best hunting in 38 is behind the carousel in Nederland. Also, the little known "wookie" bear lives there.

Colorado Wolf Introduction is getting REAL political

I work in downtown Denver, I worry way more about the junkie sleeping under my truck or in the elevator then the urban bears. It used to be pretty nice downtown, closing all the businesses for Covid turned it into a real sh$$hole. On the other hand, some of the tweakers might be able to take...

Colorado Wolf Introduction is getting REAL political

Releasing grizzly bears in downtown Denver or Boulder would be epic. I would vote for that. It would make for a fantastic survivor style reality show.

2013 Kuiu Icon Frame bag swap ?

I use my old Ultra frame with new suspension shoulder straps and waist belt and a newer 6000 Ultra bag. You can make it work, but you have to get creative with the buckles, and maybe cut a few off and switch, as they went to quick release from the old UL style buckles.

My 1st KUIU order/experience rather odd...

Just give them a call, I've been buying stuff from them since they started, never had a bad experience with their customer service, it's usually top notch. They should take care of you, no problem. The velcro works fine on the bino accessory pouch, I run mine on an older bino harness and added...
