I recently shared a duck blind with a gentleman who was born and raised in AK and still guides even in his 70's. His opinion was "back in the day we killed predators on site for safety and conservation of game and game populations were high but when tight restrictions were placed on bears and...
I use a cheap turkey fryer pot and lid that I sealed together w/ hole in top with brass male adapter to fill with water and then connect dishwasher hose to. Similar to what was mentioned above.
You cant boil them unless you have a special bucket specifically made for their skull and even then...
I recently ordered Heimers book but haven't had time to start reading. I have also read several books from guys who hunted sheep in AK since the 60's. From their accounts, sheep hunting was very similar to what it is now. That the 80's and 90's it was extremely crowded in all the ranges from so...
Why are we only looking at the last 20 years to make claims on the herd dynamics? If there is going to be any honest discussion, all the historical data needs to be looked at, not just the last 20 years or from 1985 when it was a known and documented spike in population numbers. Numbers of sheep...
If you're comparing an animal that's being prepared with all sorts of spices and sauce or wrapped in bacon it doesn't count. A lot of people say elk or axis is their favorite, I see that being the case because those two taste the most similar to beef. I prefer animals with a taste that is...
I would let the head soak til the remaining stuff is rehydrated then id do what I do for all heads.
Low boil with Sal Soda and a few drops of dish soap will clean any head up nicely. While still wet use a wire brush to scrape out the stuff that doesn’t fall off readily.
Since it’s just a...
I'll say this, I've crossed paths with Aram before, nice polite guy on the surface.
This story does not surprise me one bit, this ain't the first time he's pulled some shady/selfish things when it comes to hunting.
Mold affects everyone differently, some at most it might cause small allergy type symptoms and others it will cause full blown sickness. There is no set standard with specific contaminant level, threshold, or unsafe levels in which is considered deadly or toxic.
To those that are terrified of...
Sven saws are pretty sweet. I use mine pretty often from cutting sweepers, strainers, and beaver dams while floating rivers to cutting/clearing a trail to cutting firewood for the tent stove, even wood for the house if I don't have a chainsaw handy.

It's a muscle, no different than pieces used for steaks, roasts, or grind. Freezes just fine, I would just suggest either cutting it down into smaller pieces or flattening it out unless sealing up in butcher paper. Those odd shapes don't seem to vacuum seal too well.
How warm are the preachers? How about water resistance? Was thinking of using them for a goat hunt in early November where temps would be mid 20s-mid 40s.
I used to wear kings 10-12 years ago but got away from them. This year I was in a bind before a hunt and snagged some Ridge pants on sale...
Found them again and took a pic of the tags if anyone is interested in looking them up. I wasn’t smart enough to pull them up on the website for a link.
I hunted rabbits and squirrels before I killed my first deer. It was a way for me to practice shooting at live animals, practice actually hunting and not just following my dad or grandpa around. Granted I killed my first deer at 5 years old but I still hunt rabbits and squirrels for the freezer...
They aren’t much bigger than a mule deer. You don’t need some huge space. I've done all mine on the kitchen table/island. I would be willing to bet, broken down and boned out you could fit one in a normal fridge/freezer found in most home kitchens.
If you have dry air and shade, you can pretty much keep meat good for as long as you need, especially once you get a good crust on it.
Saying that, I have sunk meat in a river before, in thick plastic contractor style bags. Only reason was because there was so much moisture in the air from...
I use a wooden paddle and also a scapula. Prefer the scapula as it sounds the most realistic to my ears.
When walking in water pick up your feet completely out of the water before putting it back down. Thats how a moose does. a distinctly different sound than when a person is just casually...
Considering Turnpike put out 4 consecutive albums that were solid 12 song hits, one album is bound to be a little subpar of the rest. I'm a fan of the new album just as much as the rest of their music.
For me it's about the sound and they haven't strayed from their signature sound and I would...
