For me....
White is what I use for parking areas, access points, trailheads, 'turn here', gates, camp etc. Mostly 'man-made' items.
Black is for glassing knobs.
Purple is for geographical features that I'm interested in such as benches, bowls, north slopes etc.
Yellow is used for bedding...
Well it was set at 100 and the shot was 490yrds. At that distance and with that difference between adjustment and actual range, I can easily 'move the cross hairs' several inches in any direction within the objective.
I switched to a Single Focal Plane scope this year and forgot to adjust the parallax knob on my first shot at a buck.. Ended up getting him but definitely a lesson learned.
There are a handful of states that do, but they don't operate in the same way. Colorado allows party apps but will use the lowest point holder's points; Montana and Wyoming on the other hand average their preference points for a party.
--DIY dehydrated meals- it was awesome eating home-cooked food in the backcountry for a fraction of the cost and even better taste
--Seek Outside Redcliff Ultralight- made for a great camp for elk season (4 guys) and deer season (3 guys).
--Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x44--Coming from a Vortex...
Hunted CO 2nd season and shot my first muley. Saw 3-4 bucks that were bigger but wasn’t able to make it happen on them for various reasons. The snow made for an awesome hunt and very cold camping conditions.
If you're fuel gets exceptionally cold, it's going to condense and have trouble burning a good flame. Sleep with a your fuel canister in your sleeping bag, warm it in the truck, keep a sock around it etc. Was dealing with the same obstacle this week in -7* at 8600'.
That's a tough unit, very steep which keeps a lot of the crowds on the trail though. I'd say part of your being more mobile plan should involve carrying camp on your back until you find the elk. You should be hitting a new drainage/area every day until you find fresh sign.
I recently mounted a Leupold VX5 3-15 and sighted it in about 2 hours ago. From my first shot on paper, I was able to count the inches up and over I needed to go, 32 clicks up and 9 clicks right. It tracked perfectly and the next shot hit right where I wanted it to. Just another point of...
Looking at Amazon descriptions, the 170mm Pocketboy w/ medium teeth is 2.39oz; the 180mm professional w/large teeth is 5.6oz. I ordered the 170mm pocketboy last night.
Same as JakeSCH- I've seasoned backstrap, added a little bit of butter and rosemary and then vac sealed/froze. Can pull out and put right into the sous vide cooker; defrosting optional. I'm sure that allowing to defrost or not would alter the taste one way or the other.
Couldn't imagine being so scared of getting the cold that I'd skip a hunting trip or vacation, or let my gf/wife convince me otherwise. Sounds like a stressful way to live life..
I know several folks who've had a dog bitten and it seems the dogs hit on the head do the best. One beagle was bit 3 separate occasions in South Texas, all on the head. I just had round one of the vaccine given to my 8month old lab and she'll get round 2 in three weeks. Benadryl can be given...
