    Best Vacuum Sealer

I have the Weston Pro 1100 and have been very impressed, coming from a FoodSaver-- it's light years ahead in quality. It's ready to vacuum and reseal with little to no 'cool-down' time needed. The 1100 can only do 11" bags, 2100 would do 15" bags. I like being able to 'pulse vacuum' as well...

Why does anyone lease hunting land

500 acres for 8 hunters would be over hunted in all areas I can imagine and for it to maybe work would require everybody to be on a strict and agreed upon mgmt plan and be okay with not shooting something every year. Being able to manage for age class is one of the greatest perks of a well run...

    Backcountry Pillows

I have one of these as well and it works great for me. Used to use my puffy jacket as a pillow but now I can use the puffy as a knee pillow.

    Suunto Watches question

I have the Traverse Alpha and like it but don’t use all the features like I thought I would. The ‘hunting mode’ that drops a pin when it detects a shot isn’t useful, it detects shots when you have any jolt/impact like jumping over a log. The temperature reading is always incorrect because the...

What’s the one tip you wish you were given

When you see a deer in the woods- ask yourself a few questions. Why is that deer there? If there is a game trail there, why— is it between food and bedding? What is the deer doing there- traveling, eating, evading etc. Where is it coming from and going to. Build an arsenal of knowledge on deer...

    Pack as carry on luggage?

Same here. Fully loaded to the brim as well; no lid on it though. Just don’t forget your stove in your pack, the spark igniter can get you in trouble. Ask me how I know...

    Hitch Cargo Carrier

This happened to my crew and I. Had to stop at an auto shop and get some extra zip ties to secure it to the exterior of the hitch carrier.

Opinion on light weight tarps / recommendations

Have hunted out of a DST tarp with no problems. Have had to batten down the hatches from heavy wind/rain but it’s a great lightweight shelter.

Curiosity...What do you think of your state's draw system????

Texas= it's trash. Not much public land to begin with. Applicants can put in for unlimited hunt choices in the same category. It's not possible to put in for just a point, you have to apply. Fees are too low for both Res and NonRes. $3 per app and no requirement to buy a license. You...

    Arizona Dashboard

Had the same thing happening; I went back to see if it would let me apply again and was told ‘applicant was already on a paid-for application’ or something. Just a delay in the system syncing to the portal.

How much do you all actually hunt?

There were a few years in college where I logged over 65 days bowhunting for whitetail. Now I'm more about the longer western trips. 2020 was 6 days Jan deer, 9 days elk, 5 days mule deer, and probably 13-15 days whitetail hunting. So around 35 days not counting turkey or duck hunting; around...

What’s the coolest thing you found in the back country

I spend a lot of time looking at the ground; probably have over 10 crown royal bags full of worked flint and arrowheads.
