Update to my system functionality. The addition of the Rapidpure filter does somewhat inhibit the squeeze bulb reinflating. I would say it took 3-4 minutes to fill a Nalgene bottle. Also you have to pin the rapidpure filter to the bottom of the stream or between a couple of rocks as it wants...
Thanks I was thinking the medium just to keep space maximized which is why I also went with the LBO nest. I don't see myself ever just hanging out in the nest, but sitting by the stove during a rainstorm etc... I can easily see.
Can you recommend a sharpener that you use or do you hand sharpen with steel? I want to make sure when I sharpen my expensive knives that I am not ruining the angles on each side. The knife is an ESEE non-serrated.
Great write up. I am waiting on mine to arrive. Same setup as yours DCF Cimarron with LBO nest and CF center pole. I will be purchasing a stove eventually as well. What size stove did you go with?
I am waiting for my DCF Cimarron to ship from SO. I went with DCF for the weight saving as I will use it for solo everything. I went with the Cimarron for the size and shape and I am putting a LBO nest inside rather than the Cimarron 1/2 nest to save even more inches. Lastly, I went with SO...
Comitted, I would say don't settle on the pack. There are a lot of deals on Rokslide for gently used packs, sometimes only 1x use. If budget is your #1 consideration I would say shop the 2nd hand market on here or other sites before looking for old tech.
Update to my posts above. I have since purchased the Rapid Pure straw and put the filter on the end of my MSR trailshot. The pump pulls the water up through the filter so I am now filtering for virus as well as bacteria and germs. I still carry the Katdyn tablets as a backup.
Versalite is my vote. I bought mine from Hermits Hut and it is phenomenal. I agree with other posts on here that the 3oz of overfill will at best get you 3-5 degrees, but it does help keep the down where you want it. 2 other easy ways to increase warmth and comfort is first get a great pad...
Got the mil discount from Exo and the pack is phenomenal as was the customer service. Went with the K3 6400 and I am taking it on an extended trip next week. This isn't a hunting trip so no heavy loads, but I am excited to see how it hauls all the backpacking gear.
Exped. Im 5'11 and 180 lbs have yet to ever feel the ground. Packs down to about a Nalgene bottle. Maybe a few ounces heavier than the thermarest but it also does not have the crinkle of their insulation.
Delivery is sometime in July. I am hoping to get it in around 4th of July so I can take it on my backpacking trip, if it comes in later than the second week of July I won't use it until August. I will be more than happy to provide feedback.
I looked at the Kifaru, SG, SO, and Exo. I went with the Exo 6400, but like many on here it boils down to fit and features. The Exo is my first high quality large pack but I have yet to load it up heavy and walk miles and miles. I was very appreciative of Mark at Exo he answered all my...
First one. I don't plan to purchase more than 1 tipi and figure I can use this below Timberline year round with the stove. Weight and the no-stretch waterproofing nature of DCF is what pushed me to 800.00 rather than 400.00 for sil. Also, I plan to use it for backpacking, so weight coupled...
I did the DCF material with a LBO nest for inside and the carbon fiber center pole. I too ordered the line loc's which are supposed to make the pitch a bit easier as well as to put the nest inside. Im actually going to use it as a solo tent, and will purchase a stove this fall. I was...
Hille makes a great product. I decided not to purchase due to weight. Im not interested in a 1 person tent as I like to keep the other thousands of dollars worth of gear inside. Plus I was not going to pitch a tent above timberline in December, so I elected to go the tipi route and can add a...
I am in the waiting que for my SO DCF Cimarron, and am super excited to get it. I didn't like the sawtooth design as well as the SO, and felt the SO might be easier to pitch. As mentioned on here, both are great products.
