The M70 short action is long, the long action is short. Go figure!
I didn’t use a - 20 MOA mount for the 7mm because the distance that I’d shoot it aren’t far enough to necessitate the extra adjustment. I chose the 7mm to give me the shallowest trajectory out to 600 yards.
I wouldn’t necessarily rebarrel your 7mm RM into a 300 Win Mag. The M70 long action is on the short side for their own cartridge. They should have commercialized a 30 on the 2.5 inch belted case before Norma did it. The 264, 338, and 458 all used the 2.5 inch case.
Setup is just as important...
I pick my TTSX weight by selecting whatever is roughly 80% of the weight of a lead bullet I’d use for the same application. In the 300 Win Mag, I used 200gr Accubonds and Partitions. Therefore, I use the 168gr TTSX (supposedly opens at lower velocity). My rationale is a jacketed lead bullet...
True. Without knowing the amounts of the substances, it looks like what you might find in many people’s system.
I saw somewhere that he had an enlarged heart and was complaining of chest pain. I dealt with two opiate overdoses this week and neither complained of anything.
How many rounds do you have down the barrel? A 270 should have a useful life of 3k to 5k rounds if it’s not a belt-fed crew served machine gun.
I’d take the rifle apart and see if the stock has any signs of warpage. Sometimes wood (assuming it’s wood) can compress over time in the action...
People will say a 300 magnum is a 500 yard elk cartridge. You get almost no argument from anyone if you make that claim. But then people will say the 308 isn’t adequate. Same bullet, folks! If you look at the impact velocity at 500 from a 300 Win Mag, and find that same impact velocity with...
Make sure the wood under the recoil pad is sealed too. That’s often a culprit for wood stock warpage. I also give my wood/blue guns a coat of carnuba wax. Might not be necessary since you cerakoted it.
I think it’s more of the fact that trophy quality sucks, herd numbers suck, access is sucking more every year. It’s not worth coming here. People wouldn’t go to Alaska if convenience of travel was an issue. It’s because it’s somewhat worth it.
Washington is proof that poorly managed game is the best cure for them pesky non-residents. We have three species of deer, two species of elk, Shiras moose, bighorn sheep, black bears, and cougar....in theory. OTC tags for everything but moose and sheep and NO ONE comes here to hunt.
Depends on the footprint of the action. 700. Footprint stocks aren’t taking long from mcmillan. Just got one done in 2 1/2 mos. I am a fan of Bansner too. Just got one in 4 weeks. The biggest issue is they require some fitting and paint.
I didn’t do it out of state, but I did it on the other side of my state. Forest service maps, conversations with F&W Dept., and some lore from the locals on a pre-season scouting trip.
In all seriousness, try to get by on as little as possible and save all that you can. The fastest dream killer is financial obligation. That can be debt, children you’re not prepared for, etc.
I saved money growing up and was able to pay my way through a 4-year university with no debt. Got...
