Good post. Proper ethics is not about meat loss or gain in a living creature.
With that in mind would overpowered be a 7mm STW (large case, smaller caliber) or a 45/70 (smaller case, larger caliber). Meat loss isn't about the caliber or the or the case size, it's determined by how a bullet...
I can appreciate what you're saying, but I am taking a hard pass on head shots. Haven't had an animal in 30 yrs where a shot to the vastly larger vital area would have been more risky than a head shot. If the head shot is all a person has, sometimes it's not all about us, living creatures...
With respect, head shot is a nasty wounding shot if not successful. Seen animals in the field with jaws hanging and the animal starving. Head is constantly moving. Cow or bull should be considered the same. If there's a shot you'd take on one to determine the outcome of a hunt, then it...
DagOtto, I hear what you're saying. I am not coming at you at all, however, I can see where you say that.
I've seen many threads where pictures and experience end up not counting for much. My goal is to stick up for the monos, and was trying (poorly) to head off at the pass the desire for a...
Hoghead, I can appreciate you are using copper in CA because you are required to, despite the lack of choice. Have read more than once guys saying screw it and still using lead. That's always a good look for hunters.... Good on you.
Lol, I haven't had to use copper as a requirement yet in...
What he's doing is agreeing that proposing an independent laboratory study on temporary and permanent wound cavity in gel is a not a good use of time and only serves to bring more armchairs out of the woodwork.
What's your beef with SDHNTR? Did it come from this thread? You were defensive in...
I see the picture now... Nosler shortened the traditional 280AI headspace, therefore Peterson brass would be made to that spec vs being able to use a 280 Rem case for a dummy round.
Lots of other bullets if you can't find the Bergers, what range are you planning to shoot live game at?
As well, what about shooting 280 ammo for practice, then you have fireformed cases. 50 cases of Peterson are gonna be $90-100. Midway USA has Norma 280 Rem ammo for $45 a box, that gets you...
I've contributed a number of pics from elk to mule deer to whitetails here in the last few days, pictures and performance don't need independent data from another source. It's just going to bring up the "... but that is gel and not flesh and bones"... Other guys have posted very evidentiary...
For a 300 Winchester Short Magnum, which source lists 72 gr max of Hunter for a 185 gr bullet.
Regardless, your velocity is so far out there as to be considered "insane". Does that not register as an indication of what pressures that load is generating?
For sure, it's a sunk cost for equipment larger companies already have, and it's less money for new smaller companies to do CNC. Kudos to smaller companies for developing new products and seeing where things are headed.
Good point. Shouldn't take Hornady, Sierra, Nosler among others long to fire up the CNC machines and run the smaller ones out given it's easier. Especially if they use the same marketing and money they spend on everything that isn't copper for hunting.
In any case, cooper has so many...
It appears newer/small companies coming out with bullets are going with monos. Larger companies keep working with frangible bullets of cup and core type construction, and dabble with monos but aren't making their money with them, per se (Hornady, Nosler come to mind).
Entirely my opinion...
Fall of '22, my year living in North Carolina. .35 Whelen AI 200 gr TTSX 2940 fps MV, Whitetail buck 185 yds.
Angling away, entry right side behind the ribs (2nd pic), exit left side toward the front (3rd pic). Only had to trim up to the entry and exit holes. Entry hole is the noteworthy...
Nice work! Can't understand how that performance is something people could not be happy with, lol. I can only imagine what that would look like with a frangible bullet.
As well. I am curious when folks go away from monos because they weren't happy with performance. Many times it's one experience. Typically, the animal is dead and has been examined when folks say they weren't happy. It's an old adage.... "At what point in the animals death did the bullet...
While you are at it, take a look at the 168 TTSX. Barnes lists a 1500 fps expansion velocity (as is the 175 LRX). All else equal, the 168 TTSX would fly a bit flatter given Barnes data velocities.
Let us know what about the performance of the 180 TTSX that wasn't up to expectation and what...
