Sitka's Cloudburst series and Stone Glacier's M5 series are both great options! Both sets are super packable and include pit zips. In our opinion, the cuff seals on the Cloudburst do a better job at keeping water from wicking, but the M5 has a much better pocket layout.
The Helio Bottoms have become one of our favorite base/mid layers. They are extremely comfortable and the side vents are awesome. They would work perfect as a warmer base layer for long glassing sessions!
The glass quality of the ELs is very similar to the NL Pures, but the NL Pures are way more ergonomic. If you are looking to jump up to a 12x bino, the NL Pures are one of the best, if not the best 12x binocular on the market!
The Stratus Jacket would be our top pick. It is fully windproof, highly water resistant, and it has a brushed face which keeps it ultra-quiet. The Stratus has just enough insulation to keep you warm during still hunts, but not enough to make you overheat.
Comparing external ballistics between those two cartridge's at 350 yards is going to be unnoticeable if you are using similar weight/style bullets. I would shoot whichever rifle you feel more confident with. Meat loss is more dependent on bullet selection rather than cartridge choice. Any thick...
A second vote for Panhandle Precisions on YouTube! Long Range Only on YouTube also has some great videos about load development, ladder tests, etc. The Berger Reloading Manual has a ton of in-depth information about load development. Quick-load software is very nice to have for load data. The...
Montana would probably be the best option for success, the tags are just expensive. You would be able to hunt from the start of September until the end of November, and possible even into January if your tag qualifies for the shoulder season.
We have had great luck with Nosler brass in our .300 Win Mags! We have been getting single digit SDs with 215 Berger Hybrids, H1000, Fed 215s, and Nosler brass without any case prep!
From personal experience this year in SW Montana, the elk have seemed to be much more active and vocal on the less smokey days. This is just a theory, but we have thought it might be possible that the smoke messes with their nose so they just sit in the dark timber and ride it out. We have still...
Glass quality is extremely comparable between the Ultravids and the SLCs. The biggest difference between these two binos is the ergonomics. Most guys tend to think the SLC's feel more comfortable than the Ultravids. The SLCs are just more sleek. Either way you can't go wrong. the SLCs and the...
2900 fps seems pretty reasonable with that OAL. If it shoots well, you might as well run that load! There is only a three inch difference for wind drift in a 10 mph wind at 1000 yards between a 143 ELD-X at 2900 fps and a 143 ELD-X at 3000 fps.
You should have no issue if you only take the 400 gram Kennetreks! Pack boots can be nice if you get into some deep snow, but they are not necessary. If you are getting dropped off by horses and have room for the pack boots, you might as well take them!
A 300 PRC is definitely not overkill for deer or elk! Bullet selection is key for meat damage. We are huge fans of the 215 Berger Hybrid in the large 30 cals! It hits animals extremely hard. As long as you shoot everything behind the shoulder, meat damage should be minimal. There are tons of...
