Shot mine today. With a red dot I could put 3 shots in about 1.5" using 77 TMKs I loaded. No where as good as my Tikka, but not bad considering the limitations of my optics setup. Should work perfectly for my 25 to 75 yard whitetail shots that I will see when using it.
Lastly, the thermalfit...
I have a pic in post 360 that shows a 10.25 guard on that barrel. You can see a 1" sleeve over the gas port.

I forgot to mention that my 16" gas AR I hunted with last year is 5lbs 3 oz HEAVIER with an LPVO, and while I love having it on me, it sure was noticeably heavy.
This is my take on an ultra ultralight AR, similar (but more metal) to one @Thegman has shown.
Solo 300 upper
M4E1 lower
Aero steel LPK
G2S trigger
Faxon 16" pencil with tapped gas port/set screw and a thermal fit stainless sleeve overtop (.750" OD x .624" ID x 1" long)

Not yet. Everything is done except the red dot isn't here. I have a spare scope/mount I was going to test fire with, but my sling setup won't clear it. That sounds weird, but I'll post pics when it's all together to show the path I took overall.
I drilled (stoped before going through to leave a solid stopping point) then tapped 4-40 into the port. Then put a stainless set screw in there that was sanded to be perfectly flush with the barrel OD. Then I had a 0.0015" undersized stainless sleeve made, and thermal fit it by heating the...
I agree. Pricing out the lightweight AR parts made me realize I'd spend half or less than a Mountain Ascent, and I like the size/ergos/trigger of the AR better anyway.
I'm the OP. Don't stop posting because I'm still interested, but I did want to update. I'm doing an ultra ultralight straight pull AR instead. The money difference was huge and for the distances my typical shots are pretty short. I'm hoping to have a 4.5lb + ammo rifle/optics combo.
Another question: what normal parts are you not using when you do a Solo 300? The bolt catch? The buffer retaining stuff? Anything else you skip or don't skip?
