Thinking of cutting down my heat sensitive 308...

So I go back and forth on cutting down one of my rifles. I have a 308 bergara hunter. It has a 22 inch barrel and shoots ok groups for up to 5 shots then it comes apart until i let it cool down. For that reason, it's in the back of the safe and I always find myself trying to to trade it off...

    Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

I use the Midwest rod and tighten it to 40 ft lbs or until the handguard is aligned.

6.5 Creedmoor/260 for Deer, Elk, and whatever else.....

More retained velocity and wind deflection, but that's only a noticeable benefit with the 140 way past where you're shooting.

    A Giraffe with a 6UM

TIL on AH that bullets kill by shock, not by causing blood loss.

Seems like the mount can be the weak point, specifically if you use a cantilever piece. I am going to use one this year but not use a center riser piece of the mount because I fortunately don't need one to get a good sight picture.

    Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

I had one of those "woah how did that happen" moments. This is 5 rounds with 77 TMKs and a 1x microprism optic. My next 5 round group was 1.275". Both the best I've shot with this rifle I believe.

Most common field position on big game animals?

Usually looks something like this with me thinking "move you stupid f'ing thing!"

Is there a .375" bullet that works like an ELD or TMK?

I feel like at some point I'll want to buy a 375 Ruger Alaskan, which have a 1 in 12" twist. This would be for no good reason just to be honest. Launching something like a 275-300 grain match bullet into a large animal or metal target would be awesome, but if I'd be stuck with mono, bonded, or...

    .243 for moose

In my experience it totally depends on the person's upbringing on how open they are to new concepts and how willing they are to change their opinions. I'm sure they're just as many old know-it-alls as there are young ones. Usually it doesn't take long after meeting someone to know which way they...

    Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

I personally like the longer handguard because I can better steady one of these ultralights with my grip our near the muzzle.... Not to mention I like the way it looks.

    Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

Sighted in with the newly installed GLX 1X. It gives me a headache to try and shoot groups at 1x, but my 5 shot group was 1.8". 4 of them were in 1.125". I can't really argue with that considering my eyes are the limiting factor. Results were similar to my red dot on the same rifle but I like an...

    Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

I think the main difference is ultimately this has push buttons and the slx has a rotary dial. This has a little bigger window. Supposedly this has better eye relief but I think the slx has plenty.

    Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

I can't stop fiddling with optics. Put the PA GLX 1X microprism on it. That's what I wanted since like January when I started this project, but PA just wouldn't release it. It shaved around 6oz from the 1.5-4 Leupold (with lens caps) in an Aero mount. Getting back to 4.5lbs with mag and sling.
