No argument on the 13-30x eyepiece!
It sucks but the scope is still imported. I bought my last one dirt cheap but since it's grey market I don't think it would get warranty service by Nikon USA.
You can still buy an ED50 from places like B&H, but eBay and other sources have better prices.
I would just get one with the updated foot/thread insert.
The ED50 has 40x capability, which is very usable for my needs. Out to a mile, I don't feel the need to use my bigger scopes. The fixed 27x is really good too. The bigger scopes are more enjoyable to use though, especially viewing past a mile or so.
When the 50mm Razor came out, some...
I can never decide!
Except for one...
Binocs - various 8x, 10x
Scope - various 50mm, 60mm, 82mm
Tripod - various, depending on above
Head - various, Spartan or ARCA
Other - camera(s)
The one constant - 15x50 Canon
If I had to guess, there will be a protracted phase of trying to figure out what went wrong with the rest of the system first.
Then, maybe if we are lucky, some justifications for results that indicate a partial "pass". "Good enough for most hunters", for example.
Then the classifieds.
I'm...
JJ,
I was wondering if your particular eyeballs were part of explanation. That's why I was cautious to say that it's just eye relief. Maybe there's some other misalignment.
I'll send you a PM, to keep from cluttering Mr. Avery's gear thread.
Take care,
Jason
I used the non-HDX 16x and 10x last year, and tried the new HDX when they came out. I'm sold on the IS. It's a game changer for me, but you need to figure out how much the IS feature outweighs the mediocre image quality.
I sold the 10x and 16x, but missed the IS and bought the Canon 15x50 to...
I think that you are referring to eye relief, as that is a consideration for me if I wear spectacles instead of contact lenses.
The claimed eye relief can be misleading sometimes because companies seem to list the distance from the ocular, but the lens can be heavily recessed due to chunky...
This example paints a great picture of what you can and can't accomplish with different optics, for that scenario.
Last year a friend and I had several compacts, a midsize Vortex, and my 82mm out for comparison. He found a deer at 3.4 miles with a 50mm, which in itself was pretty remarkable...
I'd like to see a 10x50 as well. The GPO are supposed to be really good, but I'm not super motivated to try them.
Why do you need a 50 for your glasses?
FYI - Tract has 10% off and free shipping until the 10th.
And I saw someone post at another forum that Doug has demo Kowa 10.5x44 for $850.
I have no experience with the Kowa 44 but had the 8x33 and preferred it over the 8x30 SLC. I did get blackouts with the 33 but sold it for different...
+1
I have owned two and they are great for shorter distances. And "just in case" as they are so dang light and compact there's no reason not to bring one if already carrying a tripod for binocs.
Thanks!
I'm very familiar with the 4-9x Super Birds. Have owned a few but kept them on 4x due to tunneling :D
The SWFA reminds me of an upside down #4. The posts are thick enough to be usable.
Maybe a better question would be, can you use it in dark timber without illumination?
It seems that what you guys have posted thus far, the answer is no?
Thanks. By "standard" you mean the design, right?
I am wondering about function in dark timber without lit center.
It's obviously hard to tell by pictures so that is why I am asking. And I appreciate you guys sharing but that reticle appears pretty thin on 2.5x.
Hey man, thanks for the reticle pictures!
I have to say though, it looks pretty skimpy on 2.5x. Maybe expectations were a bit too high on my part with all the excitement here.
Thoughts on 2.5x in dark timber sans lit center?
Thanks
The comments might seem harsh, but that DB was the worst scope that I have looked through in 18 months of buying/selling/trying various makes and models including a $200 scope on Amazon. I thought that the Ares/CX was bad, but it's shameful that Vortex let that DB that I tried escape the...
