This will be long, but there is some misinformation in this thread.
The barrel taper only matters at the length you want it cut. The Bartlein #3 or Kreiger #4 are almost identical contours, and are correct to thread 5/8-24 at a 22" finished barrel length. If you want 24", you'll need to bump...
You want 7000 cu in minimum, IMO. The barneys is the best of the weight haulers, but it is a cumbersome pack in cliff country. I've seen a couple of guys about lose it when the bottom or top corner of the frame snagged a rock. A narrower profile pack is what I would want.
If I already had...
.257 Weatherby. Killing critters at high speed since 1944. Right action, right barrel and it's still at the top end.
The easy button cartridges, IMO, are 25 Creedmoor, 25-06 or 25-284. With correct barrel, of course. It's easier to make and maintain brass for them than living with a belt...
This time of year is tough for bucks. My experience in similar country, but in Montana, is the does will be in or near the bottoms of the gulches. Anywhere you have good scrub brush and other browse. They'll be food centric. Any bucks older than 3 will be up higher, but not on top. More...
My normal load for my savage is 42gr 5744 behind a 300gr parker or hornady sst with black harvester crush rib sabot. Sub in 90gr of BH209 if you have to go blackpowder sub. Gets that Parker moving at 1950fps with 5744, and 1900 with BH209. These loads shoot 1-1.5" in my smokepole.
Try to...
M1903-A3 barrels were 1:10. Should be fine with any bullet from 110 to 220 grains. I would go with 125 or 130gr bullets if I wanted something on the light end. They'll be scooting, but would swat critters fine.

Only ones that I know of anymore are the Pride Fowler scopes which is where Zeiss got their reticles from. Unfortunately, Pride Fowler doesn't make the scopes they used to, and what is available is made in China. They are not bad, but are not on par with the Japanese ones they offered...
Yes. Most seasons I camp with a 19 foot trailer. Solar panels for battery tending. 2 propane tanks. Used to take a generator, but 100 watts of solar takes care of two batteries no problem. Generator only goes if I need to run the AC. I don't think the microwave has ever been used.

The receiver hole needs to be chased with a tap. I'd suspect they tapped that hole with a worn out tap and it's galling the screw into submission. The white stuff is the lower screw threads being packed into the threads above them.
You want a 6-48 tap. Not a typical size, so you will...
To answer a few questions, properly sharpening a reamer doesn't change dimensions. The cutting flutes are designed to be sharpened and there is a flat (well, almost flat) on top of the flute to accommodate that. In Wrench's photo, you can see the flat clearly on the bottom reamer. The flute...
Try pulling the expander out, size a case and seat a bullet. If the bullet seats fine without feeling like you are smashing the hell out of it, leave the expander out forever. If the dies require the expander to hold the decapping pin, swap in an undersize expander. This is what I do in a lot...
When sighting in, or in a single range session, no cleaning is generally done. If you clean or not when you get home, that is a whole other thread that's been beaten to death.
Muzzleloaders or black powder cartridge arms are different animals, and do need swabbing while shooting.

Annealing was my question. Do you anneal every reload?
I would suspect a few pieces are annealed a bit more than the others. Weigh them compared to the others and see if they are a little lighter. Could be a slightly thinner case shoulder/neck that annealed differently. Also can seat a...
The Gibbs was a beast. Fun, but really more of a novelty than anything else. Even reloading it, it cost 5 bucks a shot when you factored in brass and dies.
I really like the 9.3 bore. The 9.3X62 is the easy one to go with. Readily available brass, bullets, and dies. The Brenneke I have...
Nice. Can you give a little more info on your switch barrel rifle? Custom or one of the commercial variations?
My own stable of bigger bores, 9.3X64 Brenneke, .375 H&H Flanged (double rifle), .416 Rem, .458 Lott. Briefly owned a CZ 505 Gibbs. There is a significant step up in recoil from...
As is, I would say 800-900 rifle only, 1000-1100 with scope. It's better than a stock rifle, but isn't worth what you have in it. Everyone is looking for a deal.
Alternatively, if you have the original stock, you would probably get more parting it out. i.e. sell the mcmillan separately, sell...
