That’s why I suggested you shoot more. Change your mental game. You’ll notch more tags, and have a lot more fun. It’s great to be in a place where you know, absolutely know, that when you squeeze the trigger/release, the deer (or whatever) is going to die, and right now. P

    Budget Rifle for Western Rookie

Used Tikkas are great. At least in my experience. And with the money he saves he can buy better glass, and more ammunition. Just because the cartridge is lethal at 500 doesn’t mean you have the skill to make the shot. Gotta practice at distance to be able to hit at distance. P

    Budget Rifle for Western Rookie

Used stainless Tikka T3 in 7mm-08. It will kill anything that needs killing inside of 500 yards. Farther, really. You don’t need a magnum. No experience with bear but I’ve killed elk, Mule deer, and antelope with mine. Farthest kill on a Mulie was 541 yards, elk was 409 yards, antelope only...

Sounds like you have a lot of experience if you have had lots of misses. And you stated you wounded and lost “a few.” With all due respect, that’s simply not acceptable. Work on the coming unglued part. Relax. Deep breaths. Practice more so it becomes muscle memory. Maybe you’re missing...

What kind of gear, and where is the tree? Asking for a friend. All joking aside, if what you’re doing isn’t working, change what you’re doing. Hunt somewhere else. Use a different technique. Practice shooting more so you don’t miss. Missing is a reality, I get it, but it should be a very...
