I thought this was public land?

It isn't remotely equivalent. Your abortion clinic scenario is protected political speech. A reasonable person (which is a legal standard in both criminal and civil law) would know that the speech is making a moral argument, not a legal one. Not so with a No Trespassing sign, which is...

I thought this was public land?

I appreciate the conversation, DP! I’m saying it’s speech intended to defraud, and as such is not protected speech. I’m not saying the crime committed is fraud. The crime is the False Posting crime I linked. Yes, it would be. These illegal postings are almost always on the private side of...

I thought this was public land?

Well, the list was not comprehensive, ergo the “etc.” But I actually think the fraud portion applies, philosophically. In any case, like I posted earlier, it is already illegal in MT… although the fine is too little...

I thought this was public land?

Interesting take. Of course it is illegal to lie in many situations. Statements under oath, false reports, fraud, obstruction, criminal defamation, etc.

I thought this was public land?

There is a bill going through the Montana Legislature to significantly increase the fines: https://leg.mt.gov/bills/2023/billpdf/HB0486.pdf

    Fire or no fire

My uncle was a logging forester for over 40 years. When they burned slash during hunting season he always brought a rifle for this reason. He always thought they were attracted by the fire.

I thought this was public land?

This is already illegal in Montana, but the penalties are too lenient. A small fine just isn’t enough of a deterrent. People falsely posting public lands are often “people of means” and find the risk vs. reward worth it.

Leica Geovid Pro vs Swaro EL Range TA

If you are looking at the 32mm Geovid Pro @Josh Boyd looked at them last year: https://www.rokslide.com/leica-geovid-pro-32-review/ I recently reviewed the 42mm EL Range here: https://www.rokslide.com/swarovski-el-range-ta-binocular-review/ The 42mm Geovid Pros aren’t out in the wild yet...

    Fire or no fire

Not often in September. I make a fire almost every day in the cold of November though. Considering how often game has walked right up to us at the fire, I don’t think the scent is a problem.

    Kowa vs Swaro

This is a pretty similar take as mine from a decade ago found here: https://www.rokslide.com/swarovski-atx85-kowa-884/ However, I actually find the Kowa has great saturation, just a little more neutral than the Swarovski’s slightly warmer color bias. Coincidentally, I shelved the ATX85 for...

Swarovski EL Range w/ Tracking Assistant

I see. My test sample had very fast ranging times out quite a bit further than that, even in bright light. Sounds like a poor sample. Glad you found something that works for you now. 👍

Swarovski EL Range w/ Tracking Assistant

Electro-optics definitely have more reliability issues generally. That is why they rarely have the full warranty of general sport optics from the same company. Even at the top shelf, regardless of brand, it is a good idea to have a backup rangefinding and observation tool in case of an issue. I...

    Pine Squirrels Ruin Your hunt.

Did it look like this? Steller’s Jays are excellent mimics, and elk calls are some of their favorites.

    Another MTN Bike Question

It really depends on a lot of things: frame geometry, rider size, trail type, etc. 27.5s are easier to negotiate in tight, technical terrain. They are easier to get going and accelerate. They are easier for small/medium sized riders. 29ers have more momentum and ride over choppy terrain easier...

Swarovski ATC 17-40x56mm Review, By Court Gordon

I have a set of glasses with a really mild prescription my optometrist gave me as I prepare for the inevitable decline in vision that comes with age. I don’t use them while glassing, as I can use the optic’s focus to compensate, but I will certainly use them when I take a look at this optic...

    Another MTN Bike Question

Justin Crossley this is awesome news! That is a solid bike at a very good price. We should get together for a ride this season! Have fun man. One caution on a used aluminum bike is to make sure your local shop inspects the frame for integrity. Aluminum frames can crack in crashes. They will...

Thinking of tossing my shoulder mounts….

I like Euro and shoulder mounts. I‘ve got them stashed everywhere. Someday the kids will have to figure out what to do with them. Oh well.
